Which radar detector to get? Escort redline or beltronics sti magnum?

Hi I am looking to buy one of the following radar detectors but am having trouble to decide.

Escort redline or
Beltronics sti magnum

I have done research on these but they were never really compared against each other directly with a conclusion of which it better.

So my question to those of you who have experience with these, which would u choose and why?

I use the 9500ix because it has everything that I am looking for...GPS, red light camera, adjustability...
The Redline won't have those options, but it will give you stupid amounts of time to slow down before you get to the radar trap. This seems great in places like Saskatchewan where the roads don't hide the cops, but here in BC, it seems like a long shot that the Redline would be effective.
If you want all of those options, then the 9500Ci would give you that, plus the diffusers.

I have looked into those already and have narrowed it down to the two above. The 9500xi is nice but I'm looking for range and these two are a couple of the beast that's also undetectable. Only problem is which to choose which is why I made this thread

Talking from experience and i used to sell them before.

Escort would be my number one choice for quality of the product and they have astonishing customer support.

8500 and 9500 are quite similar when it comes to hardware except the 9500 had GPS,Redline,Speed traps, the best thing about it it will cancel the threats after u pass them 3 times so there is less false alarms.
Redline uses the dual antenna which is nice for highway,i used to test them when i used to work in Fort McMurray and drive back in forth 1 a month.
I used Redline and 9500 simultaneously and the Redline does have a longer range,BUT i find it a little over priced if your in city.

Beltronics and Cobras i find not as easy to use and they are a little complicated when it comes on deciding on the models.
Customers had mixed reviews on those 2 companies.

9500ci or xi. depends on budget.

have the ci on the ML and 430 its awesome and out of sight. Have the xi hardwired into the 7 and works just as well but no jammers.

my pics for Vancouver
9500xi
8500xi
Redline

no point of going for the hardwire ones since BC and AB is legal to have one except on a business vehicle

P.S i did hear a lot of good reviews on V1.

If you drive in the city get Escort 9500xi, it will save you lots of headache from false alerts especially if you drive the same route frequently. If you drive alot of highway, not in city much Valentine one, it give best range and early detection over 9500xi. Have the direction arrow on V1 is great. I have both, fyi

sorry to bump an older thread. How effective are radar detectors nowadays? Have most BC police departments switched to laser?

More or less useless against speed traps (they use laser).

Useful against cops driving with radar on. Mines saved me alot over the years. Although I did get pinched with laser once on the highway.

I would probably have like 20+ tickets over the 6+ years otherwise.

So basically if im getting busted with a laser gun all the time there really isnt any point in me buying a radar detector.

If you are getting busted with a laser gun all the time I think you need to re-evaluate your driving habits. If you do a lot of highway driving and drive over the limit on a regular basis, then yeah a radar detector will help.

Laser can only be used by cops in stationary position.. if you get caught, it means you are unfamiliar with the road and/or you are not observant enough to catch the cops.

With moving patrol, they can only use doppler.. I would turn off laser option on highways because with a laser detector it will often get confused by the LED taillights and headlights which are getting more common.

Honestly MB's Nightvision system is a great way to catch laser traps at night, since you see the heat source from the engine a long long ways away.

I would look at Escort's new models.

my escort 9500ix has warned me many times about " LASER " on the i-5 and it's always been a cop.

^^ It's hard to detect but yeah, a detector still has the possibility of helping against Laser Speed Traps.

Laser is more pin-point accuracy, and most of the time if your detector gets the signal, you've already been hit, but not all the times. To me it's worth the purchase if you ever drive down into Washington. As they still use K and KA.

Washington has legal limits to radar. Detection is perfectly legal. Jamming is not.

These radar detectors never really do much for me besides acting as a lucky charm. I've had 5 escort passports 9500i's and 9500ix's, every time I sell it thinking their useless, I get the stupidest speeding ticket going 61km/h, 63k/h and 65km/h in a 50zone. (None of which I had to pay, disputed and won because I was following the flow of traffic in the MIDDLE of 3 lanes every single time.)

Kept my 9500ix for the last 10 months and haven't gotten a ticket yet.

Radar detectors are useless againt laser/lidar speed traps. However I run a laser interceptor setup in my car along with a 9500ix, I drive a lot in between Surrey & North Van and have yet to encounter laser. 99% of the time its KA band and the rare K band which cop cars run while mobile which the 9500ix picks up no problem, I pick up KA band radar from a pig sitting in the middle of the Portman bridge as you peak the bridge before I even get on it, many saves more then paid for the setup.
