If you can't afford premium gas you shouldn't buy an expensive sports car. Think of it as sports car tax.
Genesis Coupe and Veloster Turbo are two higher horsepower cars that can use regular (I think). Many sub-200 hp cars can take regular. My tC takes regular (180hp) and so do many civics etc.
If you google: CAR NAME HERE and premium gas, you can usually answer your own question in about 30 seconds.
Also, wrong forum bud.

Genesis coupe can use regular gas.
Mileage on premium is greater so at a cost savings point of view its not that much.

Also all new cars have knock sensors that will compensate by adjusting timing when you put in lower than recommended octane.

A knock sensor will adjust to a point but it is not a good idea to run it on anything lower than the recommended octane.
You will see an increase in carbon build up and in turn increased wear, lower power and often lowered fuel mileage.
In the end, if fuelling the car you are driving is to expensive for you then it is time to think of another vehicle.
Almost all vehicles these days CAN run on regular fuel, but you will pay for it in some other way.
With sports cars you pay to play.

lol... like posted above, if cost is an issue you should really not be driving something sporty.. they tend to need more expensive brakes, tires, oil, and just maintenance in general.. i think gas is the last of your worries

Rental car companies rent out volvo s60's, bmw X1's, ford fusion titanium, mustang GT's, camaro's, Hyundai Genesis 4 door etc. etc. and out of all the companies, not a single one has premium fuel. All of them refill the cars with regular 87 octane.
Long term effects? Not sure, but up to about 30,000km they're run strictly on 87.

The premium of premium gas (compared to regular) is not a significant cost compared to all the other costs of owning a car...

Premium in my big car only costs me about $5 extra a fill up...
Compared to my insurance thats nothing. Buy whatever car you want OP and just pay for the extra gas, it really isnt that bad if you add it up.
And if it really is that crippling maybe now isnt the time to get a car. or maybe its time to buy a beater. Just being realistic here not being an ass.

OP,
Have you ever even consider the insurance rate difference b/w "sport cars"? Or even car insurance in general? Or how the "non-premium gas" sport car 'A' might cost more in maintence cost vs. the "premium gas sport car B". Gas is not the only expense on a vehicle.
But if this is a car your mommy & daddy is buying for you...and insuring under their name. Then that's a different story....

70l tank in a Supra.
87oct = $94.43
91oct = $98.63
94oct = $104.23
Less than $10 difference to fill with the best fuel per tank.
Engine rebuild due to detonation $3800+.
Spend the money on the proper fuel for your car. You only save in the short term when you skimp on fuel.
Honestly tho, if you can not afford an additional $10 per fill up to fuel a "sports car" then you need to be looking at a Prius or something.

OP, you can't afford the sports car if you're asking this question. Get a Corolla. If your dad's a mechanic, he will thank you.
