In-Car Wi-Fi set to debut in Canada next year.

You will be able to surf on the Internet in your car next year thanks to Rogers and Sprint. Sprint's Velocity service, a Wi-Fi service, is set to come to Canada.

A good service or another distraction that increases the chances of accidents?

I don't know how it'll work out but right now it sounds :suspicious: to me

melloman 09-26-2013 07:24 AM

Very :suspicious:

Can see accidents in first week of release go up 6000% in Richmond.

twitchyzero 09-26-2013 08:22 AM

makes way more sense to develop wifi at transit stations/bus routes first
but Translink will just ad another 10% carbon tax to justify it :okay:

StylinRed 09-26-2013 08:32 AM

Thought this was already available? Especially for RVs

guurl 09-26-2013 08:34 AM

america's had this for a while now but it's super convenient especially if you're going on a road trip! i believe it was a internet stick
it was great lol i used it to face time my friends back home

Happy 09-26-2013 09:21 AM

I rather just turn one of my wireless devices into a hotspot

I can see Translink upping the carbon tax to subsidize in-car wifi first :troll:

thumper 09-26-2013 09:26 AM

sorry i'm not very familiar with this... will this allow internet radio to work in the car?

mos_skeeto 09-26-2013 09:32 AM

I'm guessing this will work like their second device (tablet) plans. I would personally prefer loading up my main cell phone device with lots of data and tethering with my secondary devices like a tablet or powering a car radio.

Oh god. I like getting out of touch, not more in it.

We go facebook free when we go away, and try not to rely too heavily on internet. Depends on the circumstances of the trip.

I took my nephew on a trip this weekend, and the rule was no ipods, ipads, or iinbetween. I want to see your face without the glow of lcd.

pastarocket 09-26-2013 09:34 AM

A CTV news article about Wi-Fi enabled cars.

Wi-Fi enabled cars coming to Canada in 2014 | CTV News | Autos

Roger says that Canadians "want to be connected from anywhere, at anytime".

Seriously? :suspicious:

jasonc 09-26-2013 09:40 AM

we have that now at volvo with sensus touch. turns the screen into a ipad and you plug in your rogers usb stick for internet. turns the whole car into a hotspot.

unit 09-26-2013 09:40 AM

im not sure what difference this makes in terms of distraction.
pretty much everyone has data on their phones anyway these days.
now people's connections will just be faster. i dont see how this will cause more accidents.

thumper 09-26-2013 10:54 AM

i guess there will be even more wi-fi capble ipad custom in-dash installs soon.

Yodamaster 09-26-2013 10:59 AM

We're in an age where phones can browse the web anyway, I don't think being able to open a page a millisecond faster is going to cause that much mayhem.

That being said, get off your fucking phones when you drive.

You already can use internet radio in car. Just use your cellphone and connect the headphone out to aux in of your deck.

“Think about it: going on a long road trip, the kids have the iPad or a tablet in the back seat, they want to be able to download games, they want to watch movies and things like that,”
:fulloffuck:

If these kids can't go a short amount of time without downloading/streaming content on their gadgets, they probably need some parenting more than they need in-car wifi :lawl:

And what about the parents? Who's gonna learn them? Shit's worse when adults can't handle addiction to technology.

I really should stop hanging out on RS.......... :lawl:

Swonz 09-29-2013 07:06 PM
