Malaysian airline crash in Ukraine

@Reuters: #BREAKING: Malaysian plane was brought down by a ground-to-air missile: Interior Ministry adviser, quoted by Interfax
Wtf. Shitty year for Malaysian airlines

dangonay 07-17-2014 07:46 AM

WOW. When I first saw the headlines I thought they solved the mystery of the missing airline. Two planes down in such a short time is unheard of.

Now with this happening close to an area where there's military action, one has to wonder if it was actually shot down by accident?

^^ I thought there was updates too :(

Reports: Malaysian passenger plane shot down in Ukraine - News - MSN CA

Quote:

A Malaysian passenger airliner with 295 people on board crashed near the Russian border in Ukraine on Thursday, according to a report from Reuters.

A tweet from Malaysia Airlines says it has lost contact of MH17 from Amsterdam. The last known position was over Ukrainian airspace.

The Toronto Star reports on its online site that Anton Gerashenko, an adviser to Ukraine’s Interior Minister, said on his Facebook page the plane was flying at an altitude of 10,000 metres when it was hit by a missile fired from a Buk launcher.

The plane was flying from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur, Reuters source said. Reuters could not immediately confirm the report.

The source said the plane came down 50 km short of entering Russian airspace.

The plane appeared to have come down in a region of military action where Ukrainian government forces are battling pro-Russian separatists.

Definitely a possibility. Both Ukraine and Russians use the Buk launcher according to Wiki which has a long enough range for civilian airliners.

Terrible news. :( Maybe one of the nato countries had an AWACS plane up on regular duty and they can see what happened.

Shit I thought this was about the Ukraninan fighter jet that got shot down

BBC News - Ukraine conflict: Russia accused of shooting down jet

Thats brutal

EmperorIS 07-17-2014 08:13 AM

I wonder if this incident will be conveniently enough for the international intervention in to the Ukraine and Russian conflict.

It's unfortunately not the first time a passenger jet has been shot down around a war zone. :okay:

50 km's from entering Russian air space. Gotta wonder which side shot it down. Not to sound like CIC here but one possibility is that Ukraine took a pot shot at it so close to the border in order to make it seem like the Russians took it down. Conversely, Russia might have been trying to hail it before entering their air space, couldn't get a hold of them (possibly language or radio issue) and decided to fire at it.

Vale46Rossi 07-17-2014 08:33 AM

Ugh, really shitty year for Malaysian Airline.

CP.AR 07-17-2014 08:35 AM

I wouldn't be surprised if it was a US missile that was fired from Ukraine. US is looking for any excuse to intervene.

StylinRed 07-17-2014 08:38 AM

my god, that's horrific

last I can recall of something like this happening is when the http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iran_Air_Flight_655 flying to Dubai and before that the http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Korean_Air_Lines_Flight_007 headed to the US

xpl0sive 07-17-2014 08:43 AM

Now they are going to say there was some important Chinese person on board to try turn China against Russia

Boostslut 07-17-2014 08:43 AM

Fuck, this makes me so mad. I feel for the families of the victims. They they didn't feel any pain. Those people didn't deserve to die.

melloman 07-17-2014 08:53 AM

This of all: RIP.

Now then:
So who's going to intervene? Any ideas?

I know China WILL NOT touch Russia, as China just signed the 30 year deal with Russia for $400 billion of natural gas.

GS8 07-17-2014 09:04 AM

Terrible news.

Looks like every network is covering this story. Right now, it's the blame game over who did it but as information comes in, I think some serious shit will go down.

I was going to say INB4 conspiracy theories but well....

vafanculo 07-17-2014 09:06 AM

At least the families will have closure this time around

Ulic Qel-Droma 07-17-2014 09:07 AM

maybe there are multiple malaysian airlines pilots working to allah akbar together.

v_tec 07-17-2014 09:11 AM

What a bunch of fucktards

gilly 07-17-2014 09:11 AM

Rip. sad sad news. :(

BillyBishop 07-17-2014 09:15 AM

The international response aside, it will be very interesting to see how the investigation itself pans out.

Flight plans are carefully structured in collaboration with the civil aviation authority of each state that the flight will travel over - in this case the Russian Federal Air Transport Authority. Overflight schedules are created and approved for each season. (i.e.: For summer 2014, MH17 departing EHAM is approved.) Absolutely no flight is dispatched unless the route is an approved one.

N8 07-17-2014 09:17 AM

RIP :(

xpl0sive 07-17-2014 09:39 AM

multiple news agencies have confirmed that the Ukranian/Russian airspace has been declared a no-fly zone for a while now. Whoever plotted that flight path is either an idiot or did so on purpose
