And now this charity effort has officially turned into a complete shit show.
I'm pretty sure it turned to shit, when Steve-0 and Charlie Sheen became "the voice of reason".
The Ice bucket challenge, is like that Kony campaign (minus the part where it's like a complete farce), it became trendy and hip, and everyone jumped on the bandwagon.
Unfortunately for ALS, the hype will die off and we will return to status quo soon enough...
A old co-workers husband found out he had ALS about a year and a half ago and he has been such a big strong man for as long as I have known him and he's a prison guard as well. He came into my work for the first time in months and I was shocked on the way he was looking. It's such a frustrating and sad disease, you might say this has turned into a shit show and not enough people are donating but at least it's making people more aware and most importantly this shit show is still brining in money and giving more exposure to ALS. As long as people keep donating that's all that matters since every bit helps.
I have been donating money to the cause for years and it does feel good to see other people donating as well.

I agree, and it's been just as annoying to see this as it has the brooklyn shuffle or koni or planking. It did have the nice side effect of giving awareness and raising money for a disease. But that tiesto video was the most disgusting of all.
I hate awareness campaigns... and this is a real reason why.
Hit yourself with ice water OR donate 100 dollars? wtf. how does that make any sense and how does it drive awareness to the cause, if anything its taking people away from the true severity of the disease.

Joel Zimmerman aka Deadmau5 donated 10k to this cause, he found the whole idea of the awareness campaign stupid as well as he wrote on his twitter.

Is that what the challenge is? I never read it because I didn't care.
How morbid have we become when we ponder giving money to a charity vs. dumping ice water over our heads?
I'd dump ice water over my head because it's fucking SUMMER. And I'd still donate to ALS because your body slowly dies and your healthy mind along with it. It's fucking awful.
^ i think you guys are missing the point.. like i posted in another thread.
a guy with ALS challenged his friends to dump a bucket of ice water on their heads to raise awareness... like everything that goes viral it had to be something simple everyone could do but normally wouldnt.
most celebrities doing it (obviously for attention) did end up donating as well and for those who dont donate they are clearly helping the trend and thats to spread awareness... if it didnt work would it be viral right now and have 50x + the donations as previous years?
so yeah i agree its dumb.. but its simple marketing and its doing exactly what it was meant to do

It was started in 2012 by a baseball player with ALS, the deal was supposed to be get ice dumped on you and donate $10, or don't get iced but donate $100. Followed by then nominating 3 others to "take the challenge". Obviously a bunch of idiots have bastardized it but at least some people have gotten the point.

End of the day, the charity got 10k from him. How would this have happened without this circus act? For all I know, most of the developed world with an internet connection at least knows what ALS is. I sure didn't before this.
Does anyone have access to the charity "donation split" for the ALS foundation?
as in what % of $1 goes to admin, research, etc?
