Just went today. Line ups weren't bad at all at most I waited about 6-7 minutes on lifts around the Whistler side. Conditions were decent as well. Some icy parts but there was a nice layer of new snow from last night for most of the mountain. It should be even better after this weekend but it's hard to find a whole day to head up there...

Has anyone ridden a never summer proto board before? I'm looking for an all mountain board, where i can also do tricks and jumps. Any other board to compare it to?

The proto is an awesome board. Its the board im riding now and probably going to stick with for awhile. Still fast and very forgiving. Very forgivig if you go off a jump wrong. Its a hybrid board. First time i tried one was riding Vangruvers destroyer and ever since then, i dont want to ride any camber or rocker only boards

like the other guy said above, you just try and do something new every trip. It takes time and practice.. like almost everything else. When I first started snowboarding, i went with people that were way better than me. it was a challenge every time i went up with these guys. trying to keep up, doing the same trails/ runs. Some days were good, some days were bad but in the end i learned a lot from it.

At this point, I have surpassed the skill level of the people i normally go with. The more trips you make the better of course.

I go with a bunch of different groups now: beginner, inter, advanced. Even when I go with beginners, it gives me the opportunity to tweak small tricks (butters, small kickers, etc). No trip should be a trip wasted. make the most of any opportunity.

I've been snowboarding for about 4 seasons (went 3 times last season though..) and I feel as though i could classify myself as upper intermediate for sure (not to gloat). If you put the effort in, you'll get the results.. like every sport, things take time.

I want to get my spins down this season, someone show me the ropes lol.

Got my WB edge card, they feel cheap as fuck and I almost bent mine trying to pull it off of the sticky tape on the letter. At least its only $5 to replace if you lose/damage it since its such low quality.

My buddy uses these plastic pokemon card holders, the card still scans at the gates. No more bends

RFID(Radio Frequency Identification Device) FAQ

Q: Can chips ‘survive’; in pieces of clothing, washing machines and dryers?
Answer: Yes. RFID chips are designed in such a way as to survive normal wear and tear for years, washing and drying included. The RFID access card may turn blue as the thermal ink may be activated by the extreme heat however it will still work at the lift.

lol yeah right

Lol, mine has a bend in it from when i pulled it off of the paper. They use a different double sided sticky thing as normal credit cards/gift cards, was expecting the ease of the latter.

Hoping WB will be good next weekend..probably super busy as well.

You need to get a pass and go every week, a couple of times if you can, for the whole season. Each season gets better and it'll be like riding a bike. That's what I'm told. I'm only entering my third season, but I went up nearly twice a week all last season and now I'm actually a bit ahead of some people I know who have been going for more seasons than me, but only a few times per season.

I did the same thing before I went to Whistler and they said they dont care it anymore. So I thought I would go to Whistler to buy it. It so happens that they started this new thing where they give ppl RFID passes that are reloadable/reuseable. So instead of employees scanning each lift ticket before the Gondola, they have this machine that you walk by which scans the RFID cards. They advise you to place the RFID cards in your chest pockets, away from any electronics so it wont interfere with the machine scanning the card.

Big White today was great, those stupid RFID passes not so much. Fuck whoever approved the purchase of those, all they did was fuck up the lift lines (especially on the big 6 person chair). Would it kill those twits to spend money on something useful for once?

Don't look at the number of days, look at the hours spent. I only get to ski once a week but when I do I'm on the slopes for 6-8 hours. There aren't a lot of other sports that you do for 6-8 hours each time you do them.

There's no such thing as limitations. If you really want to progress in anything you do, you will find a means to do so.

Snow sports used to be an elitist type of sport, where the participant was required a fair amount of money to partake in the act.

Now a days' it's VERY affordable to get yourself going.

However the key is determination. Don't look towards the weather, and don't look towards the conditions. If you really want to learn and progress, you'll just go and do it.

If you treat your equipment like they're precious metals, you'll get an emotional attachment towards it, and cringe everytime you get a nick or a scratch on it.

To be honest? who cares?! Yes, you might not be able to resell it if its damaged, but If you bought the gear to use it, then use it.

Because the last 2+ years haven't been the most favorable doesn't mean that the next couple years will be as well.

And remember, when it's summer here, it's winter in australia and new zealand

You can always take a vacation and continue your endless winter, if snowboarding is what you like!

Case in point. I know of a girl that had chased snow for 10 months straight. When i last saw here a couple years ago, she was this little grom that I coached into hitting a 50 footer...and now she took that skill and transformed herself into this rad shred that is able to throw all four 540s! All because she REALLY LOVED snowboarding!

uhm i went tubing on seymour as a child myself, it was alright. never been there to snowboard though. in my opinion, i find cypress is full of skiers. grouse is an alright mountain. their beginners hill is quite long, so i'd say you go for grouse to learn snowboarding. whistlers great but ive heard of too many kids under the age of 6 get swiped by people bombing down the hill.
