Porsche Mini Rant (First World Problems)

Sandy Vagina today.

Porsche, for the most part, makes money selling new cars, they don't make any money when someone sells a used GT3 RS on the used market for x2 MSRP.

So why does Porsche restrict the GT model production numbers so much? What the fuck do they care about resale?

Personally it annoys me so much that I almost want to boycott the brand.

This morning I was basically told that there is almost no chance I can get into a new GT4, GT3, or GT3 RS for the next 2-3 years lol

I can tell you this much, if I cough up 200K for a 997 GT3 RS it will be the last Porsche I ever buy, I will never ever buy a new Porsche.

/End Rant.

I'm sure there are lots of other people on here that would also like to own a Porsche GT car one day, it seems really shitty to me that Porsche is intentionally limiting their GT cars to only (what is becoming) the rich. Whether it be through crazy resale values or giving preference to repeat new Porsche buyers etc.

I dream the day I move out somewhere slightly east to save a few hundred and then get a GT4.. Then I would never complain about commutes. Its crazy how affordable the GT4 is.. I know its no comparison to the GT3 but god its soo nice for its price..

That's true, except they aren't making anymore (at this time anyway), and there is a hefty premium on them in the used car market already.

So while the Porsche configurator makes them look like a steal at a base of 96K CAD it's just an illusion.

Edit: Grom's are sweet btw lol money well spent!

Tell them u pay them upfront and they can deliver the cars 2-3 years later. With inflation and limited production, its better investment than vancouver condos.

Grom is my favorite bike. I ride it more than the Supermoto... I dont think I'll ever sell it, i have way to much fun riding. Its money well spent and still spending.. LOL Its like a 2 wheel Honda Civic, parts are endless...

Another marketing ploy. You'll want it more if you can't have it. Having good resale values fluffs up the brand image. Which leads to speculators. There are also tons of people out there that buy these cars purely as investments. I know a couple of guys that put deposits down for the gt4 years in advance purely to profit from selling the spot/car to some enthusiast/fanboy. It's like ticket scalping. Just more money being thrown around.

Something to do with maintaining their image? I mean... the GT-R for example outperforms most cars, but it's readily available and, considering the dollars for performance, not that expensive... likewise the Corvette in all its iterations... those cars just don't get all that much respect in general and the general feeling about those cars is that if you want one, you just get it or wait for a decent used one to show up... whereas people bow down to anything Porsche sticks a GT badge onto and wait years for one to become available so they can snap it up.

Same reason Enzo Ferrari always said that Ferrari should always build one less car than the market demands.

Rarity and exclusivity, plain and simple. At the end of the day, like Great68 posted, you can get a GTR or Corvette that will deliver 95% of a 911's performance, if not more. But you don't want one because you can walk into any GM or Nissan dealership and get one either off the lot or made to order in a matter of a month or two.

You think Nike MAG shoes would retail at nearly $20,000 on eBay if Nike was flooding the market with them? At the end of the day, they're just shoes that light up. But because there are only 1510 of them, they are worth like 400% of their original retail value...

I was in Vegas recently and had the chance to drive a GTR on the track to its potential(or my full potential in racing the car). It's an amazing car, but in the end I hated the interior it was just too plain, the vehicle had so many assists that it wasn't that much fun to drive, it basically corrected all your faults for you, which was neat but I didnt learn anything from it. For some people that would be awesome, but I felt I lost the whole driving experience.
The year before I drove the GT3 and man was that a blast, the thrill I had in the GT3 was just way more exhilarating. Its something about P-cars and their ability on the track is just amazing and hard to compete in regards to driving experience. Also got to race a 458 Italia, and lets just say I understand why so many people crash their Ferraris on the street.

I am amazed that all GT3 RS are going for 100k USD over MSRP. I think Porsche is missing out by limiting supply too much.

if prices are getting raised so insanely... why doesn't someone just open their own Porsche dealership, dealing only in GT3s GT4s etc? and profit

It's kind of like the vancouver housing bubble right now, everyone wants in on the action. Realtors, investors, people with houses to flip, etc.

Except, flipping cars is in a sense more manageable. I haven't looked into how long the 991 P cars will run for before being updated again. But if 3 years of waiting is what it takes, then so be it. Save up your pennies in the time being and aim to buy/allocate two GT3/RS in 2019, one for keepers and one to wait it out and flip for a 100K+ profit.
