Urban Garage

Does anyone know anything at all about the urban garage cars?

IntegraBoi 04-13-2003 09:49 PM

I usually Read The Vancouver Sun classifieds for any good cars and as of I think yesterday, all of a sudden I see cars that have the Urban Garage website and stuff. Just poped up from no where. Is this place new?

Vampyre 04-14-2003 01:05 AM

It has been around for a lil while, I really have no idea but at least 8 or 9 months, they seem to have alot of nice cars for sale though; no prices that I've seen when advertised on Canada traders website.

Deception 04-14-2003 01:27 AM

I've heard good stuff about 'em. They sell used cars and are also a new car broker.

fukamoto 04-14-2003 01:45 AM

They are very reputable but their prices are pretty sky high I hear. But their cars are in mint condition, well...some. My friends dad bought two older Porsche's from there.

My friend bought a car from them. They've been around a lot longer than 8-9 months because my friend bought his car longer than that (been in business for a few years?). Excellent service and very professional.

They specialize in importing exotics especially Porsches from Europe and selling to North America (federalizing them).

Most of the used vehicles for sale are on consignment so they are local cars.

They can also broker the purchase of most car brands (unlike any dealer).

Due to their location in West Van, they are targetting the higher end customers. They are "specialist" if you want something exotic or rare so they are very reputable.

Interesting... Europe has different standards than North America. I am sure it's more expensive to convert that to NA spec than buying a NA spec car here... unless it's older models.

Scotsman 04-15-2003 12:03 PM

Oh yeah, they're mostly older cars.

They said that they go to Europe a few times a year to go shopping for older cars (again mostly P-cars).

I think they sell most of their cars to the US.

mynxi 04-15-2003 03:19 PM

They're very good people. They held a Show n Shine a while back in North Van, I think it was called the Urban Garage Drive for Alzheimer's or something. Lots of nice cars showed, n I got to meet some of the people there when I volunteered to help out. ;)

They've been around for a LONG time. They sell high-end cars and import Porsches from Europe. Very reputable, good people. Nothing to fear when you buy from them, but the prices tend to be a bit high.

anyone used them to get a new car?

darkness 06-24-2006 11:04 PM

They are a pretty good place. Just do your research on the car as they import most of them from the US, (they are way cheaper down there), they do a US to Can conversion and sell it here.
I haven't heard of any funny bussiness about them but always do your research to be safe.

owner is a good old fashioned businessman. two salesmen are brothers (one, his name is cornelis, was offered the job as GM of ferarri maserati vancouver) and they are geared more towards the older crowd. most of the cars on their list are consignment, some are imported, and like someone else said, they do a lot of brokering, usually charging something like $500 above wholesale. my parents have been dealing with duncan (the owner) for years.

carcostcanada, how do they work? is it like the dealers submit their
quote and then we don't get to buy it until we become a
member of carcostcanada?

NISMOZ 06-26-2006 08:45 PM

I went in a couple of days ago to see if they could help me get out of my 350z and find a new truck, but they haven't bothered to return any of my calls. Maybe if you're not buying a new 911 they don't give a sh@t.

:woot: I used the search button on RS for these guys and found this from ashes of time.

Decided to dig this thread up from the grave since I dropped by there recently. I guess they cater to the older more 'sophisticated' crowd out in he W. Van area so that's why none of us ever talk about them
:haha:
My first impression about them is that they are pretty professional yet laid-back and casual. I spoke with more than 1 salesman and they were all really cool, unlike those stuck up snobs at MCL.

Yeah I agree with the previous posts about them being pretty pricey but they are definitely not shady and the quality of their cars are admirable. I'd rather pay a few extra G's for a near-mint condition car. Especially since the high-end cars that they sell would cost you an arm, a leg and your 3rd leg to fix if anything were to happen to it.

I don't think I trust myself enough to go through a private sale for a higher end car unless it's a friend or close friend of a friend.

Does anybody else have any experience with them or heard about them through the grapevine?

I might be looking to get something there..

mmmk 10-23-2007 09:41 PM

i've heard good things about them.

The service there is great, I came with a friend to test drive a 911 there a few years ago, and the salesman sat in the cramped back seat and had us take some of the great windy roads around town to show the cars potential. We were like 20-21 years old at the time and he treated us like legitimate customers which was great.

The only reason I didn't end up buying from them was because the car, though it looked in great condition, actually wasn't as spectacular when I had someone with experience check it out.

what was wrong with it? did they hide something from you? :(

A-Dev 10-24-2007 11:35 PM

I know a sales guy that used to work at urban garage.. glen. really a stand up company and all good people. glen recently moved to trend in richmond. everyone in my family has bought cars thru him.

dub.dub 11-05-2007 11:01 AM

I'm looking into their pre-owned vehicles. Do they accept any negotiations or are their prices final?

Also, do they do any trade-ins? No mention of that on their website currently.
