I read the manga issues corresponding to the episodes I've watched...they're almost exactly the same. I was kinda bored to be honest like this is some kind of kid's show. There's no real complexity to the story or the characters...you can see everything happening a mile away.

The animation quality improved ten-fold in season 2. It's looking more like...maybe Miyazaki style.

He looks gayer than a handbag full of rainbows.

All Naruto does is whine and when he finally fights, the only technique he use is kage bunshin. Extremely lame for a main character.

But the anime gets so much better when it gets to the Akatsuki part. :D Itachi is so badass.
