How do i clear customs?

My package is supposed to arrive tmrw at my door by UPS.

I was told that since its from the US, that they will pay taxes and duties for me, and collect it from me in addition to a brokerage fee.

When they come to my door, can i just send the delivery guy back and tell him that i will clear customs myself ?

What should i do if i didnt tell them in advance and they come tmrw morning?

Thanks

CRAZY VATO 04-13-2004 09:18 PM

hey

ur basically screwed. u gotta call them before hand that u will clear the customs on it. Ur gonna pay alot dependin on what ur shippin over

SkinnyPupp 04-13-2004 09:20 PM

First, tell UPS you do NOT want them to clear it. Tell them you will broker it yourself (usually they will ask). Tell them in advance! Call them right now if you have to. You should be able to still turn the package back if they try to deliver it.

Second, head to UPS (they are by the airport, down by the road that leads to that park across the water from UBC endowment lands). Pick up the paperwork

Take the paperwork to the customs office, which is down the airpor cargo road.. It's right beside a restaurant called "airport cafe" or something like that...

Clear it there, pay the taxes and duties, and they will stamp it. Take the paper back to UPS and get your package.

This will save you a ton of money depending on how much the declared value is

i'll try calling now, but dunno if they are open 24 hrs

Can i just BS at my door and said that the shipper told them that i will clear customs myself.

If the declared value is 400usd.
how much will the difference be, if i get it myself and if ups does the brokerage for me

CRAZY VATO 04-13-2004 10:51 PM

hey

yah thats what i mean

BlackZRoadster 04-13-2004 11:00 PM

crap i just called UPS and they said my fees is 250 cad.
But i told them that i will clear customs myself, but i have to call the canadian office tmrw since only the international office is still open.
hope it turns out ok for me

ShyGuy 04-13-2004 11:01 PM

You better hope the package hasn't actually crossed the boarder, and they haven't paid for you already or else you're too late. Usually you have to call UPS well in advance to let them know that you want to clear customs yourself.

actually i didnt know much about it, and i jsut told the sender to tell ups that i will clear customs.
They've already crossed the border and payed, but if i argue that my friend did tell them i will clear customs, do u think that would work?

UPS has a bonded warehouse where packages are kept until they cleared customs even if it's coming across the border and I don't think ups will clear the shipment unless their told to but I could be wrong.

I once had a package that they cleared the custom already. I just called them and said I would clear it myself. I denied the package and picked it up later after I did all the paperwork.

Anyways, it doesn't matter whether UPS had cleared it or not.

I clear packages all the time, even after they clear it for me. They call me now every time something comes in (at 7am in the fucking morning  )

. There are only 2 UPS warehouse depots that I can think of. 1 in Richmond (templeton Road) and the other in Calgary. So I dont if there is even a warehouse in the Winnipeg Area. Correct me if I am wrong.
