Wtf 2 courses? Bastard! :)

I need 6 courses 'cause i wanna take a couple of courses on top of the software engineering option (out of interest... go figure :)) and don't wanna stay for a 6th year =\

Fen, how come 2nd year standing? I thought you transferred mid-term??

KenM, when are you going to school?

Shimmer 09-27-2004 01:28 PM

3rd year CS. This term the only CPSC course I'm taking is 320 with Patrice. Fuck I hate that class. Don't get me wrong, Patrice is an awesome prof but I should have taken it during the summer. I heard the instructor (I think it was Dan) was super slack and most people ended up getting grades higher than they deserved.

I decided to take the new curriculum, so I had to finish my first year requirements back in January. So now I'm only qualified for second year. Taking cs213/cs221. (took 211 in the summer). :/

Meh, that course is harsh interesting though... To me it was, anyway... Its still not too hard, but you do have to do the assignments and should pay attention in class... Otherwise you'll have a helluva time trying to figure it out on your own.

I'm taking 420 next sept :)

Fen, sucks that you're on the "new" curriculum now. Couldn't squeeze in 219/220 in the summer..?

InvisibleSoul 09-28-2004 05:46 PM

Yeah... I don't think I found 320 to be overly difficult... at least I don't remember that to be one of the courses I struggled most with. 420 was quite a bit more difficult though... the algorithms and theories are so much more abstract.

placebo 09-28-2004 07:15 PM

I took 320 in the summer.. it was awesome. So little work but such high grades. :D

yep definitely easier in summer. i think i got a 78 in that class, was even feeling quite cocky after the exam. i would have had a hard time passing w/ patrice. hell, i got a compsci pity pass for 220 (%55, and that was the second time around) so i know my ability to make proofs isn't very good. higher than i deserved? yeah probably.

Shimmer 09-28-2004 11:00 PM

220 seemed like a total cake walk compared to 320. I did pretty well in 220 last year with Ian. Proofs were failry simple but all of this big/little o, theta, big/little omega stuff is too much for me. Some of the proofs almost seem like you need MAGIC to complete them. I mean how am I supposed to know that I'm supposed to take n to the limit at a certain point? Sorry, just ranting... I need another coding course.

InvisibleSoul 09-29-2004 02:08 AM

Okay, I admit it... I still don't know anything about big/little o and all that other crap from 320. :p

97ITR 09-29-2004 01:14 PM

I also graduated from UBC cs in May 2004.

A, what's your name?

rsx_88 09-29-2004 03:53 PM

4th year co-op here
taking this term:
cs415
cs416
cs444

placebo 09-29-2004 11:25 PM

How is 444? I'm planning to take it next semester.

rsx_88 09-30-2004 05:54 PM

444 is really boring so far, but material is pretty easy. The project is pretty much all documentation.

placebo 10-01-2004 01:02 AM

Like 310 documentation? Sounds like a piece of cake then.
