Le Gavroche

I went with my gf for a good dinner. We sat outside (2 tables) which was a huge mistake. As romantic it was seeing watching on the balcony, the service was just plain terrible. FYI, it's not like it's a great place as a fancy restaurant. When we sat outside, we had the pizza guy deliver the pizza to the family upstairs.

FYI. Everything that they serve are in two verisons. Eg// you rack of lamb, u'll get half portion of the rack of lamb, and u'll also get a lamb shank. Some enjoy the two verison of cooking, some don't.

Food:

FOIE GRAS AU PORTO ET MARMELADE
Seared foie gras with carrot, ginger and fennel chutney with port sauce.
overall, it was ok, the waiter had no idea what we ordered and didn't even bother explaining what we were having.

The foie fras was great, again, served in two separate ways.

CARRE D'AGNEAU EN CHEMISE
Fresh lamb rack, Dijon mustard crusted with roasted garlic and herb jus

not as good as it can be.

MAGRET DE CANARD ET SON CONFIT AUX CERISES
Muscovy duck breast, confit and sausage with port cherry sauce

The duck confit was so called the 'best dish', so good that guests complained when they took it off their list. It wasn't THAT good, the best duck confit i had was at the hotel at fairmount, duck confit with truffle oil.... now that was orgasmic.

maybe it was just this time, but it was a long wait for our main course and their service just sucked from there on.

The food didn't impress when I went, either.

Could you tell me how the foie gras was served (the two ways?) One was seared, and I'm guessing the other was a terrine? (Or was it just seared and served with a port reduction and the carrot/ginger marmalade?)

food was great, but service was terrible, esp. the waiter with the glasses. He was rude for the two times I've been there. The restaurant owner (? guy on the website) was very professional and nice though.

I would call and complain to the manager about that server. The server has to be reminded that he is working in the customer service industry.

wow, 5 yr old thread. to tell you the truth, there are so many other restaurants that I would choose from compared to Le Gavroche. Food, decor, customer service alone Le Gavroche just ain't attractive enough for me to go back.
