Nothing special here... A few hours ago, I heard a few Eagles chuckling on top of a very in my backyard. Got as close as I could. http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7197/6...836f2a335f.jpg They flew away after about an hour of watching everything that moves around my place.. http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7053/6...4e1f148e85.jpg http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7209/6...751b3eb465.jpg http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7190/6...837c99fcb4.jpg |
My first post in this thread. Visiting California this week, found a familiar friend down here http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7068/6...47b57c76_b.jpg http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7059/6...3c027c81_b.jpg |
I don't know what that second bird is, but i saw him when i was in San Fran and he's a beauty! Nice picture, maybe crop it down a bit to get a closer view! :) |
At first I thought it looked like either a Lazuli Bunting or Western Bluebird, but the shape of its beak is too long to be those birds....I have no idea what it is...curious... |
its a Scrub Jay. i bought this book at Reifel one rainy morning, $20. best book ever. illustrations of male/females of course, seasonal colours, and juveniles. http://www.epicdevelopements.com/wp-.../12/panjay.jpg (from Deric Bownd's blog) http://dericbownds.net/uploaded_images/ScrubJay.jpg |

Some type of Woodpecker? |
^^^ yep! Pileated, a big guy! |
^ Yup, they're huge. They spoke easily. There are a few around my place but never been able to get close to them. |
edit: removed |
|
^^^ how are they going to get unshelled peanuts through that tiny wire mesh? |
^ They poke holes with their beaks and get the peanuts out. They've been doing it for years. That feeder gets refilled every 3 weeks if not less. The Chickadee's and Stellar Jay's love it. The Junco's, not so much but they get the little pieces that fall down or go back to their seed feeder. The holes are quite big. I can stick my pinky and ring finger through them. |
