What a dumb thing to say. You must be a car salesperson |
ya, but that is where you personally, and his situation differ. he DIDN'T say he didn't know, but could find out, he just pretended to know. |
"I'll give you $1500 for your GTI. Thats all it's worth" Sold it for 6K 3 days later. It was probably worth 5 :D |

When I was shopping for a V8 camaro or firebird, went to canem auto, I asked him if he could start it up. He asked me will I buy it today right now. I said maybe, and he actually said "I am not going to fire it up for you unless you buy it right now." |

a salesperson (he's gone now) at technique auto sales did that to me also. wouldn't even start the car unless i put down a deposit first :o |

I've found that the people that try to look like they've got bling usually don't - the people that don't look the part are often times the ones with the money. (I've seen the scrubbiest of guys with the biggest wads - most often the work construction or some high-dollar trade) |
I know if I fulfil my goal of purchasing an Aston Martin, I'm gonna go to the dealers in Van looking average or below average when I buy it, see who isn't just there for the money. Then when I take delivery show up in a tux (of course) |
I bought my Stealth twin turbo when I was 19. The first salesman wouldn't give me the time of day either and pawned me off to another salesman. He let me ake it out for a testdrive and got the sale :) |
The lady at VIB Autos.. (Bonnie I think her name is) told me that the Lincoln Town Car was driven by an elderly couple, just for grocery shopping and light drives like that. When I opened the rear passenger door I saw a big "BUDGET" sticker. I played along for a bit and pretended I didn't see it to see if I could get any laughs out of it. I later asked her if the elderly couple were still alive, and she told me that yes they are, and that they're good friends who usually go out every other week for breakfast. Made my day. |
does it have turbo? |
does the turbo spool loud? |
yes, yes it does. On top of that it has a spoiler and sparco seats |
I sell cars, and I think it's interesting to read some of these things in this thread and see what my typically braindead colleagues try to pull! One thing that interests me is how much animosity there is towards not being given test drives. Quite frankly, there are a TON of people who come to test drive cars, especially sporty or performance cars, without the ability or intention to buy a car. Not only do you waste my 15 minutes, but that car also now needs to be cleaned and parked again. We as salespeople need to make a serious judgment about how serious we think you are. If you tell me you arent ready to buy a car today or have another 5 to look at, you arent going for a drive. If you look or act like you arent going to buy a car today, you probably arent going for a drive. Can you blame me? If I take you out on a test drive and somebody shows up who was actually ready to buy a car today, you COST me money as well as wasting my time. Nobody in the used car business expects you to buy a used car without test driving it, but it is not unreasonable for me to expect you to look the car over, come inside and look at the documentation and history I have for the vehicle, and talk about the price. If you are truly serious about buying the car, there should be absolutely no issue either for you signing a bill of sale and putting a deposit down that says that "Deposit is refundable in the event of an unsatisfactory test drive." There is no risk to you whatsoever - if you drive the car and something is wrong with it, you get your money back. However, it shows me that as long as there is nothing wrong with this car, you are prepared to drive it home today. |
sometimes they get you to deposit and sign saying they'll do this do that and with a fine print saying you have to buy or deposit will not be refunded. And they never do the things written on paper right, like fixing the paint chips and rust, they just spray bombs over it etc... |
Quote:
The contract should say that is subject to "Paint chip repair to the buyer's satisfaction." What that means is that if the repair is not to your satisfaction, then the contract condition has not been met. If the condition is not met, the contract is void, and therefore they must refund your money. |

Did it ever occur to you that the old couple bought the Town Car after it had come back from Budget, and that maybe they were actually the previous owners??? The irony here is that you think you busted the salesperson, when in fact she may have been telling the truth!! |
I know it sounds cocky, but my product knowledge is pretty decent. However, every once in a while, someone asks me a relevant question, and I don't know the answer. I'll admit I don't know, and I'll find out for them: usually right then and there. Every once in a blue moon, someone asks a totally freakin' random question that they think I should know, like what the wheelbase of some random car is compared to the one I'm trying to sell... well.. I'm sorry there is not a salesperson in the world that's going to memorize the wheel base of every car on the planet. That customer usually doesn't even realise how unreasonable the question is. And finally, sometimes, rarely, the information given to me is wrong, or changes, but somehow the customer finds out before I do. You have to swallow your ego and admit you were wrong. |
