:D

I've heard that Taki's which is near Stephos is pretty good too. This one Greek guy said that it's better than Stephos and without the huge line-ups.

SiR001 04-23-2006 08:52 PM

went there last night early dinner after class, waited 10min, went in, told us to start the line up outside as the inside was full. :D... stuffed myself silly

I tried Mad Greek for the first time today - the appetizer platter was quite good - lightly battered kalamari, and a bunch of other stuff

I tried the roast lamb as is my tradition - and it was fork tender yes, but not particularly tasty - I still definitely prefer Kalamatta's

the crowd had lots of families and groups - service was attentive and friendly - I wouldn't order the roast lamb again, but I'd be willing to give it another try in the future

also, we got there really early, but by the time we were done - there was a fairly healthy line-up out the door - so make sure you book a reservation

^ did you see a guy with white hair, bossing around the waitresses?

Lots of people seem to like Stepho's here.. . I personally don't like the food that much. It's alright, and the portions are large, so when I feel like stuffing my face with greek food, and not spending much, i go there.

Kalypso on Robson, i've tried quite a few thigns on their menu, and have been there many times, but really, the Kleftiko (roast lamb), is the best dish, all the others are mediocre. The dude standing outside offering free appies is definitely a bonus!

Meowjin 10-09-2006 11:30 PM

wait a minute... is it authentic kleftiko?

Like roast lamb stew cooked in a pie/phillo pastry?

haven't been to a greek restaurant that can rival trocaderos in terms of taste qaulity and qauntity!!! its been a neighbourhood favourite for over 30 years.

I recently tried a new place on Broadway/Cambie called Kamakis Greek Taverna. It's a small restaurant beside the old Afghan Horsemen.

We were originally looking to try "Kalamatta" since Slif gave it such high praise but I forgot the name of the restaurant. All I remembered was the restaurant name started with a K and he mentioned cambie/broadway so I assumed this was the restaurant he was talking about.

I ordered their roast lamb and my gf had their pressed chicken breast/tomato sauce entree. We also ordered their kalamari appetizer to start.

The kalamari was pretty good and had the right tenderness. The pressed chicken breast dish was pretty good. Usually I'm not a fan of chicken breast entrees at restaurants because I find that they're a bit too dry but it was pretty tender. My roast lamb was delicious and fork tender. The meat fell right off the bone and there was no need for the knife.

All their entrees come with rice, pita bread and greek salad. The pita bread was warm and fluffy and their greek salad was nice and fresh.

Service was excellent and the chef (owner as well) came out to give us some more pita bread and to chat about our dishes and how everything tasted.

I think there were only 6 tables of 4 in there so it's a pretty small place but the service was great and the food was excellent.

aznrsx1979 07-27-2007 06:59 AM
