Neptune Food Service

Neptune is currently hiring for warehouse workers. The position is basically for full time hours, for 4-5 shifts a week, 8 hrs per shift. The shifts usually start at 5-7pm, so shift ends at 1-3am.

Pay starts at 12.50/hr, and they give you a raise if you pass probation, which bumps you up to 14.40 or something. After that you get a raise based on amount of hours you've done. You also get paid a premium for whichever side of the warehouse you work at, like +.75/hr if you work in cooler, and +1.25 in the freezer. So if you get into freezer, and pass probation, you'd be making ~15.65/hr

The good thing is that the warehouse is always really busy and understaffed, so if you like, you can stay for OT hours, which pays 1.5x.

The job itself is fairly simple. So you start by picking up an order, then you will be driving an electronic pallet jack around the warehouse to pick things up for the order. The orders will be built on a skid, usually gets up to ~5ft high. After you are finished, just drop the skid off at the front, and someone else will load it onto the truck.

The computer does time you for the orders. Basically you enter in the order you're doing, and based on the time completed, it will give you a score out of 100%. The times aren't hard, and for the first month or so they don't care about your time at all. They only expect you to get up to 80-90% may after 4-5 months of working there. So there's a lot of time to improve. Even then you won't get fired for being slow or anything like that.

The items are fairly light, around ~10-20lbs. There aren't a lot of heavy things, even then they don't get bigger than 50lbs, and those are pretty rare.

The three sections in the warehouse are grocery, cooler, and freezer. Each one has different products, for that temperature. So freezer would be the frozen vegetables, meat and stuff. Cooler is mostly fresh produce, milk... You will start the job working on the grocery side, and as you get better they will ask if you want to try working in cooler or freezer.

The job will provide a paid one week training, to learn how to drive the pallet jack, and build orders etc.

We are currently understaffed, and hire like 4-5 guys a week. If you already tried applying and never got a call back, try applying again, as they do have a lot of applications to go through.

plz pm either me or S17 if you have anymore questions, or want us for referral... probably will give you a better chance of getting hired if you kno one of us.

The company will be hiring all the time especially now since summer is the busy season for restaurants. So if you need a job quick that pays way better than min. wage, this is a pretty decent place to work if you don't mind the weird hours.

.Dream.Time 07-16-2006 05:21 PM

sorry mayeb i'm illiterate but ... i don't see a place to apply?

Nvasion 07-16-2006 05:24 PM

just curious, but are you required to take a drug test? because at versa cold its mandatory.

Toyota Rice 07-17-2006 01:19 AM

no, there's no drug test or anything like that.

If you want to apply, just go to the address S17 posted above. You can ask for an application at the front reception, fill it out and return it with a resume. it's open from monday-friday, I think 9-5.

i've been with the company for over a yr, and they're a pretty good employer, doesn't treat their workers like crap or anything like that.

Oh yeah, the position is called "material handler".

You can pm me or S17 if you are interested in applying, and want us for referral, probably will give you a better chance of getting hired if you kno one of us.

The stories I've heard about Westfair make Neptune seem like million times better....seriously lol. Everyone there is pretty cool and you can work as much OT as u want right now...they expect u to haha.

There are public transportation to Annacis Island cuz I see buses going there. You should check out the Translink bus route.

I've worked at Neptune for over a year now and it's great money especially if you plan to go back to school like I do in the fall. Like Toyota Rice said, you can PM me or him for a referral to raise your chances of getting hired.

spoonss 07-17-2006 02:22 PM

thx 'toyota rice & s17' for the infos.

just wondering are they only hiring 7pm-3am shift now? are there other morning shift available ?

Toyota Rice 07-17-2006 02:47 PM

No, most of the shifts start around 5-7pm. The earliest you can start is a 1pm, but that is uncommon, although you can probably arrange something with the supervisor if you have to go to school the next morning or something.

speaking of school, they're pretty good about that too. when I first started, I worked full time in my off semester. Then after few months I decided to go back to school, and they will let me just work 2 days a week, + a tuition bonus is available as well. so... they're pretty good about that.

Like s17 said, it's a pretty good company and I haven't encountered any assholes there, and all the supervisors are good guys.

Oh yeah one more thing, don't worry about not being big/strong enough to do the job. It really is a piece of cake. In fact, there are girls working there, not even big girls, just normal-sized girls! so that tells you how light weight the things are.

Doubl3_H 07-17-2006 03:17 PM

pm'ed one of u guys

thanks

Mr.HappySilp 07-20-2006 09:02 AM

are they only hiring for afternoon shifts? Coz I take the bus too and I dont' thinkt here is many bus running pass the 12am mark.

Toyota Rice 07-20-2006 07:01 PM

Well most of the shifts start around 5-7pm, there really aren't many openings for earlier shifts right now.

I am not too sure about the hours for bus... I guess you can try checking the translink website.

JSilver 07-21-2006 02:08 AM

Bus stops around 12:45 I believe.

flipkronikz2 07-21-2006 09:29 AM

how is neptune better then versa? the starting wage at versa is $15 and you could either work afternoons or mornings. the only drawback is that you have to take a drug test and they do a background check when you apply.

that's not really a drawback for people that aren't getting themselves into trouble.
