am i the only person who has a legitimate reason for my ride height being close to stock?

^^ pics of your ride and reason for height xD

explained in my spotted thread + it's my daily.

it's on DC5-R Suspension. The body roll is there because we lack the stance/re-enforcement. Otherwise, when i'm "trying" it actually keeps quite flat :P it''s supposedly the "proper geometry" for the car, and actually feels VERY good in terms of response from the driver, very controllable.

The reason i decided to go back up from my spoon springs (which i loved the drop on, was able to get everywhere, and had not too much issues, and looked great) was because my underground of my penthouse's parking got all gay and has a giant slope that I can barely make with this set.

TBH, put another 02-04 that's bone stock beside me, and you'll see i'm at least an inch lower in the front, and a bit lower in the back due to spring rate + my subs being heavy. Acura/Honda did decide to lower the 05-06's by about the same amount as where i'm sitting, so that's why it looks so stock-y ride height.

Overall, i'm pretty impressed with it, i'd love to be lower, but where I live just won't take it, and it's about time I went to function over form for some things. I'm getting old, what can I say :P I mean, you always see those hot-version/option vids and they take a bone stock DC5R out onto the track, those drivers are pretty pro, and they seem to approve XD

Either way, i'm not reasoning about my purchase, but you'd be happy if you paid what I paid for them as a temporary stop-gap between that and the set of coils i really want... which i can't afford at the moment with new suspension, ecu etc etc coming in.
I should probably mention that anyone who knows anything about proper suspension geometry will tell you that a car lowered ALOT from it's stock ride height, will only suffer as to it's suspension geometry/ride quality/ track/streetability.. I'm going for a daily suspension, and this stuff fits the bill quite nicely.

For that matter, i don't need to prove anything to a certain PWP DC5 dropped on FnF TypeII's who's post got removed just now. My car always will be faster, even with my fatass in it :D. Note: CF Wrap around your accessory panel... doesn't make you fast.

This is probably the only time I've ever agreed with something you've said.

Jason at Dale's told me the exact same thing, after a certain point your car loses its ability to corner if you go too low. Even his STi has some wheel gap, hell his tires arent even stretched

Yet ppl on these boards drool over his car.

Anyway, as you were..

Point was that 99% of people sit here and tell people they need a drop, and don't know other than looks why they should. But yes, your reason is legitimate.. although i'd still have my car if i had kids XD

Yup, most cars that are "sport" orientated have millions in R&D on them, do you really think they would not engineer their stuff properly? Unless you invest a substantial amount of money into your suspension, and not just "throw in" coilovers for street use, you won't be getting anything, in fact you'll be hindering your suspension's performance.

One of our STi's is setup to 1.x" drop from factory, not a lot, however it handles like no tomorrow, and everyone likes the stance. Proof of concept :)

tofu1413 09-01-2010 09:45 AM

there is lots of reasoning behind the oem Type R set up...

i mean experienced engineers > us street guys that want to slam our cars.

i mean those Type R's arent the world's fastest FF's around for nothing...

im still abit skeptical about lowering mine...

I would say the JDM Type R stuff for my car is still better than the Type-S garbage x 10000 (over 9k) EASILY.

You haven't taken it out yet have you? you should feel the new setup!

tofu1413 09-01-2010 10:46 AM

the last time i drove your car was two years ago...

so no.

but i should have an idea how it should feel.. should be quite similar to my own car... abeit that my shocks should be more tired than yours.

Shun Izaki 09-01-2010 12:46 PM

It's a bit diff, even this doesn't feel like a stock USDM type R...
it's decently tight, but so comfortable as well! :P

Redlines_Daily 09-01-2010 12:53 PM

Im sorry, I find this to be a lame excuse.

The underground of your penthouse got all gay?..And you are concerned about handling, yet you have heavy subs in the back? Come on..

Stock height is fine, just don't try to rationalize and say youre the only one with a legitimate excuse. Everyone has their own reasons..some people can't afford springs or coils, some people don't want to scrape and some just dont like the look..its all good.

That being said, Im lowered and its my daily driver..I scrape everywhere and love every minute of it. ;)

If you don't care about your exhaust, that's fine with me. I spend hard-earned cash to buy my stuff... never powered by anyone else.

Honda decided to drop the dc5 exhaust very low from the actual bottom of the car, so I'd nail that, then the subframe, and on from there... it's just not worth it

I'm concerned about handling, and when I do runs, i take my subs out... make sense?

You can't assume everything, which was my point when people call me stock ride-height. Which it actually isn't.

That chrome stripping on his tails looks like the stuff you stick on from Canadian tire, saw someone at the grandview one sticking it on his EL, and we rolled in, and he drove away, half complete LOL

The intention was to save the thread from arguing and get back to posting shameful cars!
