I think this kinda belongs here.

Richmond owner of James Bond car ordered to pay almost $400,000
https://www.richmond-news.com/news/r...000-1.24203007

The Richmond owner of a crashed $200,000, James Bond-style sports car - who tried to sue a dealership and auto body shop - has been ordered to pay almost double the original cost of her wrecked vehicle.

The Richmond News reported in 2017 how resident Jessica Liu lost control of her silver, 2014 DB9 Century Skyfall Aston Martin and collided with a rock in December 2015, while driving near her home close to Blundell and No. 2 roads.

She only had basic insurance and subsequently refused to pay the repair bill – which ranged between $85,000 and $135,000 – claiming in a law suit launched in 2018 that she had been taken advantage of, due to her lack of English skills and perception of wealth, and that there was a breach of contract and collusion between the two defendants, Vancouver-based dealership (MCL Motor Cars) and auto shop (Burrard Autostrasse).

Hilarity of the actual story aside, that's such a poorly written article.

The repair bill doesn't "range between 85K and 135K", in another article written by the same fucking guy in 2018 (https://www.richmond-news.com/news/r...ill-1.23135428), he himself wrote "Liu still owes more than $85,000 of the original repair bill, after she initially paid a $50,000 deposit."

So she sued for bullshit after not wanting to pay the additiona $85K, and the dealer and bodyshop countersued, and won. Also wtf is a 'law suit'.

Also, for those wondering, the $400K this bitch was ordered to pay breaks down like this: $85K, the remaining repair bill; $4k, interest on the $85K; and fucking $240K on storage fees, at $400/day, starting 2017

Time and space is money in a body shop. If you’ve ever been in one you’ll know just how much one car can push back deadlines. If she was notified of the price to keep it there and accepted, then good for the shop. She could have easily had it towed home for $300 but clearly this bitch is dumb as a bag of Americans

i find it very difficult to believe it was kept in a spot that made the shop lose potential work for 3 years
maybe they treat exotics differently

They set an exorbitant price because then the owner is likely to move it, freeing up space. If they don't move it, then it's a cash cow.

It's still a space that could be holding a vehicle they're actually being paid to work on. Since they're a body shop and not a storage facility of course they're not going to charge a typical rate for something they don't want to do.

i'm just surprised the judge agreed with the amount

let's pretend the registered owner was equally dumb but the vehicle value was 40k, will the shop still seek 250k in damages before interests and labour/parts?

It's not based on the value of the car. It's based on the value of the space it occupied.

that's my point, did they arbitrarily set it at 400/day because they know the owner is wealthy? would another shop down the street do the same?

It's $400/day because they're not a storage yard and they don't want to be. They want to motivate people to get vehicles out of the shop. Odds are this isn't the first time they've dealt with some entitled idiot trying to use them for storage so their rate is set high enough to motivate even exotic car owners to come get their car.

For some reason a lot of BMW 7 series always seems to get vandalized as it gets old and starts to have many problems
