I showed up one day at 1pm and the guy said if I wana come, show up at like 6am. theres only 10 people there. by 7am theres at least 50. anything after 9am is at least a 1 hr wait

Meowjin 02-06-2007 02:34 AM

are the lineups stillb ad in richmond?

saucywoman 02-12-2007 09:15 AM

sorry to jack the thread but I have a dumb question. I'm wondering about the references section. Can it be anyone, as long as they've known you for two years and not a relative? eg. it can be a friend or prev supervisor

Djiban 02-12-2007 11:48 AM

yes, it says either friends or co-workers on the form

saucywoman 02-12-2007 11:54 AM

oops. I missed that. Thanks :)

Carl Johnson 02-12-2007 02:03 PM

there are these kind of services, which you can find in yellow page or chinese newspaper. you pay about 50 - 80 bucks and they will do it all for ya.

I called someone when I was back on the island and the dumbass had no idea what I was talking about. She was a notary but told me that "I needed to find a doctor or lawyer" to get my forms filled out and hadn't heard of the waiver form.

Can someone PM me some specific information because I've got my forms and my pictures ready to go, and I don't mind waiting in a shitty lineup, but I do need someone to sign off on me.

do you live on the island? or do u live in the GVA?
any joe shmoe lawyer / notary public can do it for you
over the phone they may not know what you are talkin about, once they see it in person (the ppt 132) im sure they will know what to do

btw : very important, if you miss this you will want to pull your hair out and shoot the lawyer / notary in the head

the lawyer / notary that signs the ppt 132 MUST, MUST MUST MUST write a little blurb on the back of 1 of your photos that goes "this is exhibit A presented to me" blah blah blah. its a declaration that they make.

the exact wording is in the little box on the bottom left corner

El Bastardo 02-13-2007 05:22 PM

I live in the GVA but I never bothered getting my ID switched over. I'd rather do it over here because people are.... well.. bluntly put, not so fucking dumb.

Sorry to bring up an old thread, but I'll be coming down this weekend and going in on Monday to deliver my passport in person. I'm wondering if anyone has been to the Surrey or Richmond office recently and what the lines are like. tia :)

The doors open at 8:30am

If you want to be one of the first people, you have to get there by 7:40am

The first 20 people isn't bad, but after that, and during the day, you have to wait for fuggin HOURS.....

My suggestion if you go in person, go super early.

SlySi 03-01-2007 08:56 AM

I was there 2 weeks ago.
I was there on a Friday.
I hear Fridays are the worst.

I started to lineup at 6am. Thinking I would beat the line.
Here is my suggestion.

No matter what. You need to get there before 12pm.
The wait will be about 3-4 hours.

Heres what I saw.
I was there at 6am.
When I got there. There were about 50 people in front of me.
At 7am. There were about 200 people behind me.
By 8:30 the line up had gone around the building and back to the front door. Quite insane.

8:30 open. They let in around 50 people.
I was able to go in with the 50, and got a ticket number to be called.
A few minutes later. The person passing the ticket asks.
Who filled the passport application online?
There were 3 of us who did.
We got a seperate ticket number.
My new ticket # was called within minutes. I passed all 50 people in front of me. And I was in and out around 20 minutes.
So Yes. Filling online will bypass most people.

So fill your application online.
And its up to you how you want to lineup.
Just get there before 12. Or else you waisted a day.
And you will have to come back next day.

I visited the downtown office. (This one is ridiculous)
Richmond (Probably the fastest)
Surrey (Heard its just as busy as downtown)

ETA for passport is 2-3 weeks.
They say about 4 weeks. But I know people who get them in the 2 week range.
Good luck.

saucywoman 03-01-2007 09:03 AM

^^ thanks :)

Richmond opens at 8:30, so you're saying if I get there at 6 I will be within the first 100 at best? I have to head back home that night as I only have Monday off, so I need to be in and out of there by 12 pm at the latest as I don't want to drive the coq once it gets dark with the way the coniditions have been lately.

Has anyone been to the Surrey location recently? I would prefer to go to that one as I don't like driving in Richmond, lol

Drove by there this morning at exactly 8:26 and I'd say there was easily 100 people in line outside. The only reason I noticed is because my dad pointed it out and we both got a good laugh.

El Bastardo 03-01-2007 02:22 PM

Whats the address of the Richmond location?

I figure if you get there by 6am. You will be out by 9:30 the latest.
It really depends. I was told Friday was the worst days to go. And I went on a Friday.

Go early. Get it over with. And you will be smiling when everything is over...

I think if you arrive at 6am. You will be under 100 for sure. Very good chance within 20-40 people.

Also.. by the time 8 rolled around.. There were allot of people jumping in or people holding spots.. etc.etc..

Go early and you will get out early.

And apply for the online passport to save more time.

Oh word of advice.. Dont bring a coffee into the lineup.
Could be trouble.. :)

Meowjin 03-01-2007 02:55 PM

how do you apply for an online passport?

SlySi 03-01-2007 02:58 PM

http://www.ppt.gc.ca/can/index.aspx?lang=e

Gumby 03-01-2007 03:05 PM

Just to clarify, it's not an "online passport ". What you actually do is complete the application online, print it out, and bring it to the office.

saucywoman 03-02-2007 06:07 AM

SlySi I'll be going to the passport office Monday. I wanted to take today off, but Fridays are a busy day for us too so I asked my boss if I could take Mon off.. I've applied online...
Regarding coffee: If I'm going to be standing outside in Surrey at 6 am I'm going to have a coffee. I'll be done long before the doors open so there shouldn't be any probs

SlySi 03-02-2007 11:25 AM

Saucywoman,

My problem was there was no washroom...

:)

saucywoman 03-02-2007 12:11 PM

ahhhh that makes sense, lol

saucywoman 03-05-2007 06:09 PM

so just wanted to thank everyone for their assistance :)

Got in line at 6:30 this morning ( I had to wait for the parkade to open) I was about 80th in line. Thank god I got there when I did cause lots of people started showing up not too long later. Because I applied online it only took me about 20 mins waiting for an agent and I was finally out of there by 9 am

To anyone going, make sure to bring a chair and an umbrella. I forgot mine in my car and was SOAKED

mgarba 03-06-2007 12:42 AM

Where is this place anyways? I got lost going off the 108 exit...

saucywoman 03-06-2007 06:27 AM

It's at the big Scotia bank building. Come of the Patullo bridge and when you get to 108 turn right. The Scotia building is about 3 blocks down, if you miss it you're blind :p

Djiban 03-06-2007 08:52 AM
