Leather strap finally came! My god, this feels so much better. I really can't wear metal anymore.
Leather's not the quality I was hoping for, but hey, it was $15. lol

It might feel "near identical" and look "near identical" but materials, construction, and internal movements will not be anywhere near identical as a Rolex.

indeed...but you are comparing 4gs vs a <200 watch, i'm just trying to give you an indication of how nice these watches are for the money

Yep, on watchuseek I find that orient has a lot of credibility, which was surprising when I first got into the money pit...err i mean hobby. Their pricepoint even for limited watches is well below even the limited/collector seiko.

You can get an Orient from Discount Watch Store but it's probably cheaper to get a US proxy. You can also go to watchuseek.com's forums and PM the member orientwatchusa and he might send you one. He even allows to 50% off discount.

Had bad experience with the LVMH Canada service center. Sent it 3 times under warranty and each time it came back with a new problem.

Damn it.
Now I'm doooomed.
Finally caved in to by my first "real" watch.
Not one, but two

They are not as expensive or as nice as most of you here have but they are as much as I'm willing to spend for a watch now and they fit my lifestyle.

First up is the stealthy Citizen BM8475-00F.

Next up is the Seiko SKX781 aka Orange Monster.

It was a toss up between Black Monster, Orange Monster and FrankenMonster. Had a really hard time choosing between them and I hope I won't regret my choice. lol

Now I just gotta sit tight and patiently wait for them to get here.

I guess to many, a watch just needs to tell time.

To some, a "real" watch has a history and a following.

I guess what joquio means by "real" watch is that out of respect, he understands that some people spend a lot of money on the hobby, while the more affordable brands/models are for those of us at a different stage or have different priorities in life.

To me a "real" watch is a watch you specifically went out to buy outside of just needing something to tell the time, based on factors from reliability, aesthetics, and exclusiveness. Price is not of concern, but is in reason within those factors. I've owned some $10.00 watches because I liked them etc.

Of course some can be an a$$ and say real watches start at $8k which is what some forum members on WUS, TZ, TRF, RISTI would have you believe.

^ I just wanted to see what you guys opinion is on "real" watches.

Swatch is a cheap brand yet they are as "real" as a watch as you can get. They own most of the movements out there for mechanical watches.

Some say "real" watches are companies that only make 1 thing and that's watches. By that comment, a Timex is also considered a "Real" watch.

I'm not hating or being an ass, i just want to see what's everyones opinion on "Real" watches are nowadays

I knew what you meant!

I especially love the whole eta vs in house debate that goes on in the various forums. It's not a real watch if it is not in house lol!

Actually, I just step into this watch world and I didn't mean to offend anyone by saying "real" watch. As notjustforshow already said, "real" watch could be interpreted differently and for some "real" watch starts at $8k.

For me, what I referred to as "real" watch are watches which I feel I'm paying for the quality, internals, mechanism and material used. Whereas with other more fashionable brands you are just paying for the "look" and brand name. Like how Armani, Diesel, Burberry etc. are all made by Fossil.
Not to say that I don't take "look" into account but I also appreciate the history that comes with those "real" watches.

PS: Please correct me if I'm wrong in anyway, I'm still kinda noobish to this watch business

Spoiler!

Damn you flameboy54.
You just HAD to show me such a nice picture of your Black Monster.
First I was pretty set on the Black Monster but since I'm getting the Blackout Citizen I thought why not get the Orange Monster instead. It took me soooooooooooo long to finally decide on the Orange Monster.
No I have second thoughts about it.......DAMN YOU!!!!

Maybe I'll get the skx007 in the future to make up for the Black Monster haha

This reminds me of JLC's "Have you ever worn a real watch" ad campaign

I have nothing against watches with ETA movements, I own a couple myself. What I don't like is when certain companies stick a stock ETA movement or slightly modified ETA movement and try to pass it off as an in-house movement and charge in-house prices for it. I am aware that there are some companies that do extensive modifications to the ETA movements.
