Good thread. I love watches.

1)I have a Breitling Navitimer Limited edition. Top Gun.

I am not especially familiar w/the Breguet model u want, but I would definitely recommend buying a Breguet, esp. over a Chopard or an IWC. Chopard is known for the aesthetics but as far as a watch house, they are not the best quality you can find. IWC are far better, but still very much below Breguet.

Breguet are one of the few houses that make their own workings, (this might not be importatnt to you , though), but you are guaranteed to get a far more accurate watch over one using ETA internals (ETA being the main manufacturer in Switzerland of internals... can be found in most automatic watches, either in original condition, or modified by that particualr watchmaker).

Iceman_2K 01-28-2007 05:26 PM

i prefer watches that use the valjoux mechanism, specifically the 7750 chrono. Right now I'm wearing a seiko diver.

You're correct, the Chopard and IWC use ETA movements. The IWC big pilot's watch uses their own movt, and it's a very cool watch, but it's a little too chunky for my wrist and is about the same price as the Breguet. The Breguet is nice, but it's about twice the price of the Chopard/IWC pictured, and when I think Breguet, I'm thinking of their dress watches with the classic blue hands rather than a chrono.

A good friend of mine just got a Panerai and that's a really nice watch too.

Sky_2000 01-29-2007 03:12 AM

I myself find Panerai a little overrated. Have you thought about buying a Zenith, personally i think they have some nice Chrono's. Get a Hublot BIG BANG those are pimp but a little more modern looking.

To tell you the truth, i would be hesitant to believe that IWC made the entire movement. If you read a lot of forums you learn that in order for a movement to be made 'in-house' it means that it has been modified drastically. In the IWC case, I BELIEVE (not sure at all) that they use their proprietary winding system (Pellaton or something), which basically just elevates the winding rotor using a spring which acts like a shock absorber....!

That being said IWC are great watches, and who really cares where the movements are made if they are basically rebuilt in house? Some watch nuts, but not I.

If you are planning on buying a really great watch i'd take a look at Ulysee Nardin watches. I have just orders a Maxi-Marine Chronograph and am really excited to get it...!
