Lancer Evolution X

Does anybody know if it's going to be available in Canada?

I did a few forum searches and I couldn't find anything, so I'm guessing this is (surprisingly) a new topic.

For those of you who don't know (sorry I'm a noob here, so I don't know the general level of knowlege in these forums), previous Lancer Evolutions haven't been allowed in Canada due to a 5km/h front collision regulation that the Evolution doesn't pass because the intercooler assembly doesn't have sufficient protection.

From the pictures so far, it seems like the Evolution X has a better protected front than its predecessors, but you can't really say for sure just from pictures whether it'll pass Canada's stupid regulation or not.

Anyways, for any of you who know. Thanks for the reply.
I've been very curious about this, and I haven't really found anywhere to ask until now.

It should be coming to Canada. Mitsubishi was not willing to redesign the bumper on the previous Evo's because we weren't a big enough market to justify redesigning it just for us, so they said that if we get them in Canada, it will be when they do a full redesign of it, which is the Evo X.

Mitsubishi Canada used to run like 51 states by Mitsubishi cars USA. Started in spring 2006, when Mitsubishi Canada started to work independently and report directly to Japan headquarter. The marketing strategies and product developement have changed a whole lot for this market. There will be an E10 for Canada, with Mitsubishi re-engineered the FMIC and bumper for our crash-test regulations.

CVince 03-14-2007 06:41 PM

this is excellent news.
The E10 is likely going to be my first car.

I haven't owned a car before, but I tend to be a maintainence freak and I take good care of my stuff. However, for cars, I do intend to take them to the track.

With that in mind, what does the track record for reliability look like for the previous Evolutions?

I've heard about the crankwalk issue with the 4G63 found in 2nd-Gen eclipses, and I'm wondering if it's also an issue in the Evo series seeing how it's a very similar engine.

*edit*
actually.. speaking of which, is the 4G63 also in the Evo X? Or are they redesigning the engine to complement the redesigned transmission?

AdamR 03-14-2007 06:56 PM

it is a whole new engine in the new evolution. It is going to be the MB11 2.0L

i talked with two different mitsubishi dealerships here in vancouver and they both said that the evolution is coming. the new lancer should be due here maybe around june or july, the lancer ralliart (competitor to the wrx, sporting a turbo engine as well) will be here late this year, and the evo should be here early next year if i remember correctly.

HondaGuy 03-14-2007 07:22 PM

I have a feeling that the EvoX will be coming here... :)

v1nce 03-14-2007 07:43 PM

how much does it cost

Having formerly worked at a Mitsu dealershi, they say that every time. EVO IX, "it'll come here". IX MR, "They'll get it for us".

Time will tell.

CVince 03-14-2007 07:57 PM

probably 37-43k USD ballpark MSRP.

But considering demand, it might be more.

Solo_D33A 03-14-2007 08:15 PM

new lancer's here already, saw it in Van-Mitsu

but no word on the Evo yet, dono when it's coming

AdamR 03-14-2007 08:25 PM

the new evo will most likely make its debut at the Tokyo Auto show this year

SiNzz 03-15-2007 09:36 PM

Ooo...same time as the new STI. This ought to be interesting. Does anyone know if it there'll be an option for a normal 6spd, or is it only going to be offered in flappy paddle form...

CVince 03-16-2007 06:29 PM

I believe it is 5 speed for normal MT.

Though I personally like dual clutch "flappy paddles".

SiNzz 03-16-2007 07:21 PM

If it's a true DSG or SMG system, but I thought that wans't confirmed. I wonder how well those computer controlled clutch systems fare with high horsepower, since I've heard they aren't exaclty 100% reliable as of yet. I could see this conflicting with the EVO's image as being easy to boost to big HP #'s...

sexyaccord 03-16-2007 07:26 PM

the evo got uglier and uglier since the evo 6. the evo 5 to me was the best looking

I thought Evo 7 and 9 looked good, but i personally dont like the body of the evo 10.

SiNzz 03-16-2007 09:08 PM

I think they're sorta moving away from the hardcore performance car it's been known for...seems like they're trying to go more mainstream.

Only time will tell. I'd like to stay optimistic and think that the Evo hasn't been nerfed.

Sure the body looks a little less hardcore than before, but it still has the power, it still has the numbers (0-60@4.2s, 0-100 @ 12.4s, so u can estimate a 1/4 @ 13-14s.), it does slalom better with the S-AWC (which you always have the option of getting rid of), and it's all aluminum which probably means it's lighter than other Evos.

And High tech doesn't always = less hardcore. Just look at F1 for example. And arguably, stock-for-stock, the Evo IX is more hardcore than the V, and it's considerably more high tech with computerized everything. For most drivers, unless you are extremely experienced, high tech is a tool.

I personally have a lot of faith in the new Evo. I'm pretty sure they aren't going to do to the big X what Mazda did with the RX8.

Those figures don't seem right to me. THe 0-60 in 4.2 could be reasonable given that the current one is aroudn 4.6, but 13-14 for the 1/4 seems high. I'm rpetty sure they're already in the low 13's, and would be surprised if they made the car slower (especially since cars like the current WRX are sitting in the low 14's). High 12's seems more realistic to me...then again I'm no expert.

Well. Even more hardcore then.

Those are just my estimation. (The 0-60, 0-100 is from topspeed.com). Maybe your estimation is more accurate.

terkan 03-18-2007 01:06 AM

I'm pretty sure its coming out, msn.ca had an article out on the evo X and they said the execs at mitsu confirmed it would be out in Canada.

lol, talking about mainstream, check out the STi's concept. It's a watered down economy look-alike car.
