How to get the maximum on your trade-in? I decided on buying the new 2008 lancer GTS (black) coz of the looks as well as the nice options...I don't really care about the engine as I don't race >_<" And yes I don't care if the EVO is out in a few months as it's gonna be out of my price range anyways -_-;; Anyways tommorow I have an appointment in Northshore Mitsubishi...They gonna appraise my 2000 Civic SE Coupe w/ 83 000 km (low Km's)... The going price for 2000 civic is around $10,000 (craiglist, buyandsell, canadatrader) and I don't expect to get that price from the dealer. The thing is I don't want the hassle of selling it privately...So the choice is trade-in..I'll be happy with $7000-$8000 dollars but anything less than $7000 is total rip-off IMO My question is that how to maximize the trade in value of my car? Yesterday I washed my car 2x and vacuum + spray air freshener on the interior.. I also cleaned up the dust on the engine as well as the trunK. Is there anything else I can do? Things to say? P.S: I want to know if it's okay to go from one dealer to another to appraise my car and choose the dealer w/ the best value? I know it's kinda hard as the GTS are all sold out so the dealer gotta order one for me =( I heard bad stories on fuckin salesmen getting angry to pplz coz they bought the car from somewhere else.. |
good luck.. you'll be lucky to get $4000 from your car last time my sister went to northshore honda to trade in her bmw which was going around 17000 on craiglist, they lowballed her so bad she just walked away without saying a word they offered $4000 if you want to get money for your car, just sell it privately or don't expect much.... actually expect to get ripped off :P |
You have to be blunt and tell them this is what I want and it's not negotiable. They'll either take it or leave it but either way you know where you stand. Have you already negotiated a price for the new car? You should probably do that first so they don't play with the numbers and just add money on to the price of the new vehicle. If your car is worth what you say it is and you'd be happy with 7K throw it in the buy sell at $7800obo and if there going for 10K it will be sold within 2 days. It's never taken me long to sell any vehicle because I always price them low just to get rid of them and save the fucking around. |

That's their problem that they're angry. If you can get a better value on your civic from another dealer, you can take that back to the original dealer and see if they'll give you the same deal, otherwise just walk out the door. You haven't signed anything yet, have you? |
@chinook: Yea I would xpect that too...If they low ball me I would seriously walk out and go to another Mitsubishi dealer.. But I don't have that much leverage as the GTS is selling so well >_<" Damnit Btw is it okay if I say in the beginning that I would just walk out if they low-balled me? I seriously only want a fair price >_<""" I don't xpect to get 9000 dollars...But hey $2000 dollar profit on my car is good enuff right? Fark the dealers.. |

LOL They wanted $22,000 for my CSX Navi Auto w/ 45,000km's |
It's a pretty well known fact that car dealerships make a good chunk of change for trade-ins |
check value of Canadian black book. it will give u a range of value. negotiate the trade-in value for the highest. go (http://www.toyota.ca/cgi-bin/WebObje...,vehicle=Yaris) and there is a link for the black book after u pick a car. Walk away if the number is less than the black book price. appraise it at as many different dealer as possible. BTW, the price u see on used car in the dealer lot are usually with $4000+ markup after they take the trade-in from you. So if u see ur car with similar option/condition are selling around $10,000, then the price they are taking it in is usually $4000~6000. |
Mmm that's why they are approximating my car to be $6000 dollars...damnit...BTW any1 here want / looking for a 2000 CIVIC Coupe? here's the ad in craiglist: http://vancouver.craigslist.org/car/353061707.html. |
dealershits are fucking ripp off and piss me offff !!!! |
You will not get what you want on your trade, the dealership wants to make money, they how they work. You will pay 6 grand less in tax tho, so you would have to sell your car for almost 7k to get the same, which would be easy. |
It'll probably be hard to get what you want, also the fact that the new lancer gts I heard is pretty much sold out. They probably wont give you a higher trade in value just to make the sale. |
dude, I told you to check out those kingsway dealerships, they usually give you a better price. dealership offered $4400 for my car, I end up selling it to those shady dealers for $6000 |

Exactly what I'm thinking....Damnit...>_<" @Asian XL: I will check the Kingsway dealers after I go to the dealer. LOL. I made an appointment to the salesman in northshore mitsubishi already...But nothing is signed yet so not to worry...^_^ Btw any suggestion which Kingsway dealer to go to? Which one u went? |
Don't negotiate the new car and your trade-in separately, a lot of sales will either give you a pretty good discount on the new car, lock the price then rip you off on the trade-in, or vice versa. Focus on the difference you have to pay/add, that's the number that really matters. |
Uhm. if you want my opinion, and mine's pretty good, it's all about the difference.. the other figures like MSRP and Trade don't matter.. it's all about the difference. |
I think you'd get more if you bring your car to a Honda dealer and get a new car from them. But Northshore Mitsu is usually pretty good. I got my car from them. It probably depends on the salesman that you got too. |
@Enrai: I got Ali..the old persian guy >_<" I think today I got an okay deal....I got $7000 dollar which mean approx. $8000 w/ the tax savings... I think that's not too bad. I was xpecting them to bid $6000 or lower in which I would have walked out the dealer |

My last new vehicle I had the easiest sale in the world for the sales guy, I knew what I want and I wanted it right away, I didn't even need a test drive. He blew it by insulting me on the trade and I was pretty much giving the thing away at half market as is. I didn't counter I went to another dealership and they were happy give me what I wanted. When he called me two days later asking me if I'm still interested in the truck he tells me he could have did better then what the other dealership did for my trade no problem. My question was then why didn't you? |
tell them it's a supra (kit it) lol i remember someone went to lougheed acura, and had a kitted civic to look like a supra, and the dude just almost believe him, until they told him they were yanking his chain. was pretty funny |
check adesa's hand book and refer to that, will give you a better idea how bc market goes |

In the meantime, welcome to the MitsuNation(.net)..... :D Do you have your new car yet? |
I think you did okay with $7000 which is the equivalent of $8000 as you said. I don't think you would have got much more selling it privately. Congratualions. |
http://www.toyota.ca/NWS/english/con...n_vehicle.html Blackbook on your car assuming its auto Low: $6,050.00 High: $7,150.00 |
