I finally reached the 25 milestone. Got my 25 pin and they said I will get a new donor card in the mail. It is supposed to be really fancy.

I started donating while I was in college, but stopped after a year or so. If I had continued, I estimate my count to be over 250 by now. Far cry from 25. So, you young ones out there, get into donating blood. "It's in you to give!"

Has anyone considered donating platelets instead of just whole blood?

I would love to, but I cannot, since I have diabetes. I am AB positive and they really need that type (universal donor type).

I thought O neg was the universal donor, and AB+ can only give to AB+, but can accept from everyone

Deja Vu........

You're right. AB+ people can get blood from anyone (universal recipient), hee hee....... I mean, Yay!!!!

AB+ is rare in that only 2.5% of Canadians are my type. AB- is uber rare at 0.5% of Canadians.

Check out distribution of blood types by country.......interesting.

Higher percentage of AB+ blood in Asians, by the looks of it.

Japan 9.9%

Mind you, Hungary is 2nd with 8%, with Turkey coming in third with 7.2%

India, HK, Taiwan all at around 6 to 6.5% range.

i'm going to hit 20 soon and to be honest, if you make time for it, you'll just go.

i now go every 52 days + or whatever the number of days are. I book 6 appointments in advance AND i get to choose what time I want. I go at 1 PM, first one to get there, first one to get served and I'm in and out of there within an hour. I love it. Congrads to those who is also making an effort.

again, it's free, you have it in your body and DAMN, you get free mango juice and all the cookies youwant.....

I hit 25 last time and was promised a really cool ID card. I haven't received it in the mail yet. Gonna call them to see what's taking so long. Now that I have the 25 pin, I have to wait till the next level......... 50!

I think they should have milk there............. goes with the Oreo's. Mango juice and cookies, not a great combo.

I would like a free massage or foot rub when giving blood, LOL. Hell, even free WiFi would be a welcome bonus.

You are actually right. For platelets and plasma it's actually reverse of red cells. AB being the universal donor and platelets only have a shelf life of 5 days.

I remember when I got my 10th pin, I was pretty giddy. I can't wait till they send me one of those really cool cards for hitting 25.

Usually by appointment but sometimes they try to squeeze you in if it's not too busy

Had the worst damn experience the last time I went. The nurse kept adjusting the needle in and out of my arm because there wasnt enough flow.... Felt like she poked a tendon or something. They had to ice my arm after because it was swollen..

Not going back to the oak street location.

I went last weekend and the only difference I saw was that they stuck the labels on when you're inside the room rather than when they're taking your blood. It honestly felt like maybe an extra 2 minutes...

Princess, you and I can go together next time. I go to the Oak Street location and it is always smoother at that location. Almost as smooth as me, LOLOLOLOL.

Then I can say.............. "MeowMeow Spotted," and actually not be McLyin'
