I'm almost 30, and I will say this:


In life you only get 1 shot, and you don't really know where shit is going, you never do. If you think you are more destined to be a family guy with a steady g/f and job, I'd rock the cheaper car and start saving for a house, etc.

If you think you're more of a "come as it may" type of person with a sense of adventure, and a desire to play it by ear, get the BMW and fuck the hot chicks that will eventually ride in it. ( Or semi-hot, or average, depending on what you can get )

Let's face it, a car is all about priorities. If your priority in life is to party, socialize, and really try and bang the best women, you need a sweet ride to impress the ladies and show your personality. If you want the steady wifey girlfriend, get the sensible car and start saving for the downpayment on the townhouse.

Personally I'm of the latter type, I am always blowing money, having fun, trying to adventure as much as possible and working on get rich quick schemes. It's worked pretty well so far and my two big projects are almost done. I think Revsceners will like my adult video game. :) Basically, if I was a 9-5 worker, I would probably pick the cheaper car and go the financially sound route. I am, however, a digital nomad that really is in it for the short-term enjoyment of life. :)

I'm actually having a ton of fun working on my Supra right now, and the main reason is all the pussy it got me. Well, that and nothing, nothing was more enjoyable than taking it on trips and rips up and down the coast when it worked. Automotive bliss, I'd say.

Marco talks a lot of shit, but I'm positive he's had a ton of fun he wouldn't have had if he owned a Civic

I'll be graduating as a Pharmacist this year
Monthly income should be about $5000 after taxes a month. Already accepted a job offer.

I'll be moving out, but renting after I grad. Aim for rent will be like $800 bucks a month. I've got a big ass student loan, which I plan to maybe put $2000 a month into? Besides that, i've got my usuals... cell phone bill, food, maybe some clothes once in a while, going out costs... And maybe some money set aside for investments (if i have any left?)

The student loan contributions are variable, i'm choosing to pay into it hard because I want to cut it down asap. And the amount that I eat or buy when shopping and stuff can vary... but set costs would just be car, loans - min payment at least, rent, cell phone bill.

Hope this helps put things more into perspective for everyone who's trying to help me brainstorm and providing suggestions!

Well, i've had others before her, but this gf is more of a serious long term one for sure, and we have been talking about marriage and this and that after she's finished school... but that's sort of off-topic

buy a g35 out of the states, it'll cost you around 20k, im my opinion its the best car for the money.

Lease the BMW for 36 months and walk away with the memory. Forget about what you are paying in the next 36 months because like others said, you only live once. Also, you don't want to own a BMW for more than 48 months unless you have extended warranty to cover those tiny little bits of repairs.

how many kms do u drive a month though? i drive roughly 2000km/month - 24000/year

i get about 500 to the tank $40 fill up = $160 a month

^that's standard for any pharmacy... actually depends on if you work in the lower mainland only... that's probably more like $4k after tax... but i'll be floating outside 50% of the month, so the premium you get will bump you up a bit...

One friend brought up a good point actually... if I do some floating, and have to drive to the island and stuff... I'll be putting on some solid mileage on the car... Are BMWs that unreliable? To the point that i'd be concerned about putting too much mileage on it, or keeping it past warranty?

Pharmacist? Definitely go for the BMW. You will need the excitement after a boring, tedious day behind the counter.

get one that's been well taken care of

suspension requires a bit of maintaining
just check for life left on various bushings

mine has 180k km's and the car runs beautifully
you just dont tire of the music of bmw inline 6 :)

it probably requires more maintenance than civic or corolla
but i'll take the bmw over them anyday:D

Maybe I'm the only one that thinks it's a pretty sad existence to live life with a bang-what-i-can mentality.


oh, and What_the?, with that kind of cash flow, if you opt for the BMW, wait a little while longer and just go straight to the 335 instead of getting a 328 now.

If you think you'll put high mileage on the car, then you probably don't want to lease either one.

if you plan to drive A LOT, get the civic.. it'll cost you less in the long run.. better gas mileage, more reliable etc.. a civic will probably last you 2+ times longer than a bmw will even with proper maintenance. do you see many bmw's even hit over 200K km?? honda's hit like 400K km easily.. plus the maintenance costs of a bmw/mercedes etc. is more costly then maintenance on a honda. but if you wanna show off and be in debt, go for the bmw and live life!

Of course you can do things that can dramatically increase your chances of ending your life so don't be stupid about it either.

You spend a fair portion of your life in a car, might as well make it enjoyable. If you can afford it, do it.
