K i got a question for all of you that are in school (post secondary) do you live at home still? If you're living in residence or away from home, how much do you spend per month on food? (averages). I'm trying to crunch sum numbers and figure out roughly how much i need saved up to go away to nanaimo for schooling. Damn i hate crunching numbers :( lol

LOL.... When i was living out of my parents place, i spent about... $150 every 3 weeks on just random food and dinners, and stuff... that being said, was just for one person. I eat cheap tho, pho and 3 set meals from foodcourts :D

TypeERRR 02-05-2008 02:18 PM

Yea well, right now im living at home, and i spend about $200 a month on foods. I eat at home about half of the time, the rest of the time i hit up subway or wutever is closest. I dunno, i'm not a huge Pho fan... but i eat tons of rice, with jus about anything. Speaking of rice... i think it's almost done cooking :)

commonly referred to as an egg :)

I go out about 3-5 times a week, and am managing to spend about $100/2 weeks. so yeah, roughly $200/mo

Yushimi 02-05-2008 03:14 PM

School was horrible today. Therefore, I wanna game but I can't because I have to study for my stupid midterms. =(

k20a 02-05-2008 07:26 PM

I live at home at the moment, and also working while schoolin'. For school, I pack either leftovers from last night OR the night before or instant noodles (really cheap cup noodles from superstore). I usually try to bring the nalgene bottled water and if I"m finished that, I sometimes buy a little tastier but I'm trying not to spend money at school other than for parking; Which is a bitch since it's 3.50. Working basically covers my insurance for vehicle, sometimes cell phone bills (I pay every other month), gas, parking and other spendings.

Sigh, I'm BARELY getting by every month with my spending habits, I just don't know what to do anymore other than 'Don't spend money at school' - If you think about it, if you're not working and you don't spend money, are you really saving money other than what you already have and you have no income?

TypeERRR 02-05-2008 07:40 PM

Well, the program i'm looking into is 7 hours a day, 4 days a week. So hopefully i can get a job at one of the local restaraunts for 2 nights a week or something, jus enuff to basically give me some pocket cash and free food for the day. I kno that i won't have a car over there (i plan on leaving it at home with storage insurance). So basically my expenses will consist of cell phone bill, food ( i eat alot ) and laundry/cleaning supplies.
Right now i'm putting away $1600 a month, so i think i should have enough by the time september rolls around? I'm definetly gunna be hittin up costco every month for groceries, cause that'l cut down on costs alot! The good thing about the program tho, is that after the 10 months, i can start an apprenticeship, and start makin money. That idea i love, cause i have some friends who are into their 3rd year at university, and they're owing $25,000 in student loan debts. That's not somewhere i want to be lol. :)

i ono man, is there really a difference in the school you're playing to attend in Naniamo compared to BCIT? If IN THE END, you'll be in getting your license with the same knowledge from studetns giong to naniamo compared to bcit, why not do it at bcit where its closer?

TypeERRR 02-05-2008 08:27 PM

Because i don't meet the requirements to attend BCIT :( I wish i did, but i kinda dicked off too much in high school. I'm applying at VCC too, which has the same program, but the program at VCC has a waiting list. So my idea is to apply to both Mala and VCC, and whichever school accepts me first, i'll go to. VCC would definetly save alot of money, because although i'll be driving, and spending money on insurance+gas, i can live at home, and eat the food thats around here :)

what requirements might these be?
if anything you can finish up a course at summer school? :S

k20a 02-05-2008 08:44 PM

Yeah what ^he said. Trust me man, try to school as close to home as possible and when its time to find a job, that's a different story.

TypeERRR 02-05-2008 08:44 PM

^^ I would need to upgrade my math to math 12, and upgrade my science to get Physics 12. Unfortunatly, math is not one of my strong points. It sucks tho, because they just changed all that this year, but they hadn't updated their info on the website. So up until i started making crazy amounts of phone calls, i thought that i'd be able to apply there. I was thinking perhaps doing some courses thru correspondance? that way i can do the work on my own schedule, and not hafta take time away from my job to get the classes finished.

k20a 02-05-2008 08:46 PM

^ahh i ono, but I"m not trying to put you down or anything. looool

im a white guy and i was able to do pretty good in math 12, and its Much easier than math 11, MUCH,
if you think about it,
is it REALLY worth it moving to naniamo, spending more money on housing and food or spending a bit more on the extra courses and going to bcit... with US! (even tho i havent seen k20 in person yet) haha

TypeERRR 02-05-2008 08:54 PM

Haha i kno ur not man! and i appreciate any and all tips or advice. I mean, i wish i culd get into BCIT, cause i hear lots of great things about it. That's one of the reasons why i'm leaning towards malaspina, because they have a very strong heavy equiptment mechanic program. Unfortunatly i suck at math. LOL. My math 11 course at school was all on computers, never brought a pencil or calculator or paper to that class. O and the science that i used to graduate was Info-Tech :) lol. Bad choices i kno, but at the time i wasn't thinking all that much about post-secondary.

lol well now that u put it that way... :D haha well i'll definetly look into what it takes to upgrade my education. I'm sure it'll look good from the employers point of view if i had math12 and physics as well. WOO!! party at BCIT! we'll go hunt down k20!

The_AK 02-05-2008 09:05 PM

honestly employers aren't going to care much what you did in high school, unless its Just a high school education you have,
i mean its not like they will inspect your report card and be like "hmm.. says you got only 53% in math, we need someone with 56%"
they tend to look for What you have completed,

TypeERRR 02-05-2008 09:16 PM

LOL yea good point. I could always wait on the waiting list at VCC, and attend night school for math 12 while i wait. That way when i go for 2nd year schooling, i could apply to do those 6 weeks at BCIT or something, jus for a change of pace. :) lol

The_AK 02-05-2008 09:20 PM

exactly,
haha,
hey, what high school did you go to in richmond? (says your from richmond)

TypeERRR 02-05-2008 09:24 PM
