stand alone complex will completely blow you away. i made the mistake of watching that before the 90's movie and man it made the 90's movie seem pretty weak to me. it's still one of those series that completely stands out to me.

Great Gatsby 5/10

They kind of lost the point of the whole story

Ulic Qel-Droma 08-24-2013 07:52 AM

timecrimes 8/10
Los cronocrímenes (2007) - IMDb

star trek 8.5/10
RIPD wow it sucked shit... 5/10
great gatsby 6.5/10
the story does suck and there was a reason why the novel never did well when it came out. with all the jazz, music, action, whatever magic you threw at it, it still fell a bit short.

Culture_Vulture 08-26-2013 02:16 AM

Good Will Hunting
10/10
it's been a while since I've watched the oldies. Matt Damon really is a great actor.

now you see me 8/10... i didn't think it was that bad. i thought it was pretty entertaining i went in with no expectations and i couldn't guess anything until the end, maybe that's why i thought it was good.

wingies 08-26-2013 07:32 PM

Kick Ass 2 8/10

Super funny movie! The Tumor, Genghis Carnage, Black Death, and Mother Russia! Whoop Whoop!

I still prefered the first one tho beacuse the idea was fresh.

SpeedStars 08-26-2013 09:16 PM

Worlds End. 8/10. No idea how they got above 90% on rotten tomatoes. Was a good movie, but there was so much nonsense

I give it the same score too. The only thing that fell short to me was the ending/last twist. I basically knew exactly how they did all the magic asides from a few tricks.

The Great Gatsby

I'm not quite sure what to make of it. Half of me wants to rate it highly, while the other half wants to give it low marks. I usually love Baz Luhrmann's work (something about his over-stylized, over-the-top art direction intrigues me and draws me in like no other director can), but this one seemed... off. The first part of the movie was his typical work, but the second half had a far more serious, almost bare bones feel to it. It may have been the direction he was attempting, but it just felt like it was directed by two different people.

The acting was great. I was prepared to hate it simply due to Tobey Maguire (I hated him in the Spiderman trilogy), but he actually did a pretty good job. DiCaprio's ability to draw you into his own fictitious world was believable, and many of the scenes makes me feel like this could very well be among his best work thus far.

I dunno. I've never read the book, nor have I seen the other versions of this movie, so I have nothing to compare it to. I guess if I have to rate it, I'd give it:

6/10

Edit: Oh yeah, I also watched Iron Man 3. It was certainly a lot darker than I had expected, especially considering the direction of the first two. I'm personally a fan of grittier, darker films, so I liked it more than the rest of the trilogy. That said, it still wasn't very good. Mindless popcorn flick, mainly. 6/10

Sorry, not to single you out here as I'm not trying to be personal, but this is something that's bothered me for a while with a lot of different reviews in this thread.

How can something be absolutely terrible and still be given a 5/10? 5/10 is average. It's neither bad (0/10), nor the best film in the world (10/10). I think everyone needs to rethink their scoring before writing it down and actually give a score that it's worth. Faaaaaaar too many "meh, it was okay" comments that are then attached with an 8/10.

:fulloffuck:

Sorry, /rant.

If we say the worst movie ever made is 0/10 and the best film ever made is 10/10, then for me, 5/10 translates to 50%, as in a bare pass, or a D grade. Now, while the average grade of all movies that are produced may be 5/10, the average grade of the movies that I personally watch is higher than that - probably around 7/10, or a C+. Now, unless you are really unlucky and just happen to pick really bad movies or just don't check imdb etc. ratings beforehand, I don't see how the average movie you watch could be a 5/10. I do, however agree with you that if you say a movie "sucked shit", it should be much lower than 5/10.

My personal problem with ratings in this thread are that people give 10/10 or 0/10 ratings without any explanation whatsoever. If you give a movie 10/10, I think that at least deserves a sentence or two.

Totally agree. Although it's all arbitrary anyway, most people tend to use a 7/10 to 10/10 scale.

I can still enjoy a 6/10 movie, and I will even watch a 5 sometimes.

Movies that are below that, I usually don't watch the full thing. Or it's an Adam Sandler movie and I know it will be under a 5 anyway, so I don't bother

6793026 08-27-2013 07:30 AM

First of all, no movie can be ever worse than Battlefield Earth; it would be the all time 0/10

then you got some classic biggest BOMB of all times that are like 0-3/10
