So under what conditions will the link be allowed again?

What if the name of the room was changed from "RevScene" to something more discrete, like "RS Chat" or something?

van_driver 04-01-2008 05:27 PM

damn, I actually started to get to know some ppl and had some good convos going like talking about hybrids and even talking about how gross los bastardo's picture was LOL

Something that doesn't have "Revscene" or "RS" in it's name. It's a liability issue.

LoWeR-CaSe-VoWeLS 04-01-2008 05:36 PM

Anyway to make the chat like authorized? or a password or something along those lines so that people can't just set their name to whatever they want?

or change the title of the chatroom like lomac said.

Meowjin 04-01-2008 06:40 PM

wow thats so gay.

Jon's right. Fraud and Identity theft is one major issue leading to the shutdown of the RS Chatline. In ways, one can sign in as me and say stuff derogatory or other means that would make MY PERSONAL account [Here on RS] BANNED. I believe there has already been one case this afternoon around 12pm - 3:30 where users were imposing as females.

To all you users - grow some balls. Please do. This was meant to be a leisurely Chatroom of off-topic posting, and has seriously become a major issue that could potentially lead to the downfall of RS.

:drama::admin::rant

If you want to talk, just add each other on MSN.

K-Dub 04-01-2008 10:01 PM

chat =/= revscene forum.

shouldn't be connected.

that said, there's tons of places to go for online chat.
removing the link won't stop people who really want to.

If they have the "revscene" name actually trademarked or own the intellectual property rights to the name, they should be able to stop someone from using it.

That being said, they shouldn't be stoping someone from posting a link to a simple chat site where RS members chat outside of the forum.

BeeBeeAhn 04-01-2008 10:49 PM

the chat is dead. =[

Umm, 'kay. Can you, uhm, grow some balls instead of, uhm, brown-nosing mods constantly? Kthxbye.

From observing various posts by you in the past, you do quite a bit of sucking up to mods. Can you post something more constructive than telling the users to 'grow some balls' or to use MSN, because honestly it's been said many times already. What if people want to be able to have a chat environment, without the usage of MSN? An example is me using it to chat during my criminology class. Do I want to have a 10 person chat on msn? I think not. </rant>

What's the difference between a 10 person chat on MSN and a 10 person chat on an actual chatboard? Absolutely nothing...

Err. Okay. Let me clarify what you just said. This post [about the RS Chat] has NOTHING to do with my other posts. There's no reason why you should attack my personal interactions with Revscene's Moderators just because I'm trying to help out the greater good for Revscene. Secondly, this is an open forum to all users to state their opinion. If I want to say something short, such as "grow some balls", then I can. Sure, I'll get responses. If you were nice and asked me to be clear about it, then I would.

On second thought, utilizing online instant-messaging programs will enhance the communication between members. For a little history lesson for you kids, Revscene was designed by the tuner for the turner, and from the 7 years through its existence, it grew into one large community of over 50,000 members. How was this possible? By incorporating lifestyle topics, users come to this website to share similar interests and hobbies. This is how Revscene expanded, not only by popularity, but also in market.

MSN is one dry instant messaging program. Although we may talk to friends and family about certain things or matters, It does not provide that same interaction like how we interact with Revscene's users on this board. Why is that? Most of our MSN users are, in fact, people who've we met directly, whom we have that personal relationship too. In comparison to Revscene, we know each other indirectly - by the internet. But the thing is, our interactions with each other here is much more different than our interactions with family and friends. It is because we share similar interests in lifestyles that cause us to partake in these open discussions.

Now let's compare MSN and that "RS Chatline". In MSN, we have an identity. We have an personal email account that allows us to sign in as one single identity. With the RS chatline, however, users from anywhere can take that person's identity without others knowing. We aren't connected to our email, and we aren't connected to our Revscene. I've seen people in the past get blamed on, scapegoated, and/or penalized for something they have not done. Do you think Revscene should allow this? Imagine me coming into the RS Chatline as "xX_AlTeZzA_Xx" and start spaming random crap. Unfortunately the Mods can't ban you because they may not even know if that is you in the first place. Thus, their modding powers are next to nothing. We don't want Revscene liable for what they didn't do, right? The only thing they can probably do is close the thread and take off that URL.

NOW LET ME SLEEEPP Blarrghh.

PS/Edit: Oh yeah what I meant by "grow some balls" is that we're not elementary school kids anymore. We're (mostly) grown up adults. If you're a grown up adult who imposes as little Asian girls, then shame on you. that's why I wrote that comment.

Okay, it may not be like a liability issue, but more of an identify theft issue.

Meowjin 04-02-2008 12:23 AM

Identify theft of an already anonymous character?

K-Dub 04-02-2008 12:38 AM

id link to www. theinternetisseriousbusiness.com but nah.

keep things seperate, just spread a link around pm's if you really really really want to have a chat on web.

Ulic Qel-Droma 04-02-2008 12:46 AM

well well, someone can just start another chat, ... hell ill start one
ulic's most excellent chat.

or i'm too stupid to figure it out

why doesnt invisiblesoul just rename it to like... something else. then it's good to go again.

Ikkaku 04-02-2008 12:51 AM

nintensity -- fair enough that you clarified what you meant by 'grow some balls' and I respect that.

lomac -- well, it's not that having a 10 person msn conversation is any more of hassle than joining that chat url, but it is the fact people bored on RS can chat with each other at their convenience. As well it may also allow more people to interact with each other. In the chat, anybody can join (which, yes, unfortunately has their downfalls), but with msn it only limits those people who you've added.

So anybody opt for a random chat (read: no associations with RS/Revscene)

K-Dub 04-02-2008 01:10 AM

cant believe that a link to a chat is taken down for fear of being affiliated and liability problems.... and also because some think that actions on an external site/chat would result in a ban on this forum.

what a world

Alphamale 04-02-2008 01:26 AM

Honestly, the chat was an excellent complement to the RS's forums. It just allowed ppl to log in when they were bored to see what's up. I like the idea and it would be great if someone could perhaps "integrate" it into the forum. However, I hear that it is extremely difficult. Oh well.

Revscene is a registered business.

It becomes a liability issue when a semi-associated website/forum/whatever is opened up elsewhere online that we have no control over. Things can be said/done on there and we wouldn't be able to control it.

I have no problems with you guys creating a chat forum. However, we would appreciate it if you didn't use the Revscene name.

It's only extremely difficult due to the hardware limitations we face with RS servers, that and man-power that it would take to execute this action item.

None the less, the chat was getting way too flooded... no real point showing up, start an IRC channel and we'll see...

Let's make a chat called Rebu-shin.

At least I clarified "growing some balls".
