Okay, fine... you laid your cards out on the table, so I guess we have to comply. A few points though:

1.) Prohibiting the use of the "RevScene" name may be justifiable, but even the letters "RS"? I think that's a little sketchy to enforce, but whatever.

2.) Would it have made any difference if it was an IRC room instead of a Meebo room?

I honestly don't think it would make a difference, as even on IRC servers, a person may be able to imitate another user. There is still no mechanism that can confirm a person's identity. If a person were to imitate another user, even though there are nickserv or name enforcements, a person could still just register as another person, of course unless the user had previously registered the name.

Best suggestion is to just use an IRC server, and make it completely irrelevant to RS, and just chat as bored people rather than RS members.

Oh, that much I know... the question I posed wasn't in reference to the imitation issue. It was more so for the liability issue.

It does not have RevScene or RS in its name. It is called "VOT Chat". VOT isn't a registered business or trademark or copyright name, right? So is that kosher?

I don't disagree that an IRC room has its advantages... operators that could enforce order in the chat... could see the history of the chat, not just the last page of conversation... could swap files if we wanted to... and of course, we could use our choice of IRC client.

If someone feels like setting up an IRC room and having it readily accessible to anyone via clickthrough, that would be great... but it's probably too much work.

However, the media player thing in the Meebo chat is pretty neat though. :D
