Bubble Fruity - asian style dessert ftw... |
|
shaved ice at aberdeen mall |
+1 for Thierry, their macrons and tiramisu :sweetjesus: |
La Casa Gelato. Expensive and not the best quality gelato but all those flavors make it so fun. |
Just bumping this. Do any of the aforementioned places have a nice and cozy atmosphere? Been to Javis and Cheesecake Etc, but I want to try something new. I looked at Thierry's, but the seating doesn't look that great (the food on the other hand.. :sweetjesus:) |

I was there on a Sunday evening and the dinning lounge was moderately busy. :) Edit: Here is it. Not many options but I had the Caribbean Rum Cake. I had to share it. Spoiler! |

The second one is a black forest cake, which was divine GF got me a black forest cake from there for my bday 2 months ago (10/12"?) that tasted like crap though... Quote:

thierry downtown dots (for ice cream parfaits ) on cambie the urban tea merchant downtown has awesome teas and decent macaroons ( my fav for high tea-ing) Bella Gelatia downtown ( they have this heavenly confection that is gelato sandwiched between a macaroon; they're to dieee for) |

Go try it. well worth the money. he is in fact the best~ |

The croissants are dry and taste like cardboard -> faubourg kicks their ass there. I had the black forest cake and it was absolute garbage. You could get the same thing at a grocery store for cheaper. I had another one that was also completely forgettable. Maybe I made poor choices, but ganache makes far better cakes than thierry. The only thing that I would spend money there on are their macarons (goddammit people, stop calling them macaroons!) and they're not "OMG, YOU CAN'T MISS THEM" good. They're fine.. but that's it. Edit: http://kitcheningwithcarly.com/ <-- her macarons >>>>> Thierry any day of the week. |

I swear, Vancouver, as a large metropolitan city, probably has some of the worse pastry shops in North America. Just trek 2.5 hours south to Seattle, and you will find way better shops, even your average baker is better than here. Fly 2 hours down to San Francisco. It's literally night and day difference. For the price we pay, we deserve better quality pastry here. And before someone else comments, yeah I know this thread is about dessert places in town. :) |
I had the Macarons at Thierry, they are only average, nothing special, that place is overrated. |
Anyone know any good chinese dessert places? |
the macarons at theirry always taste stale. best ones are at faubourg |

But... they close early unfortunately. But, their lemon bar has the perfect blend of sour + sweet. |

Try their Americano. Very, very good, possibly the best I've tasted. Their apple pie is "flat-out" good (flat, being... it is really thin, which is good, and also flat-out good). They do a lot of things well, being delicious. The top items to eat there are the apple pies, apricot danish, Americano, and the "OPERA" cake. The fruity cakes are so-so only. |
Old thread bump. My wife's cousins want to go all the way to Thierry's for dessert. I hate going all the way downtown to lineup for overpriced sugar, though. It seems that place is busy and overrated. What are the recommendations in 2014? Looking for place for great dessert, and seating. |
True Confections isn't bad, and if you're into cheesecake, Cheesecake Etc. on Granville is also pretty decent. Capstone's chocolate fondue also isn't bad either. I say "isn't bad" because I'm not into fine dining, so some of the more haute couture here may look down upon my suggestions with horror. |
asian dessert places: heartstock noodle & tea by granville island - yummy desserts w/ vietnamese food (pho, vermicelli, rice, bubble tea. they give big portions for the bbt!!) icybar on kingsway past metro - should try those mango pancakes doolami in richmond (they have the best icecream. beats ernest and they have take home jar as well) should definitely check these places out this is how heartstock desserts look like. . . https://instagram.com/p/uwyaXBKAue/ |
True Confections is awful. Crappy flour cakes drowned in coulis. The thing is, it's not even that the cakes are lousy (they're mediocre at best), it's how much they charge for a sliver. When a slice of cake at this place can get you a whole cake at the grocery store with proportionate quality, it's highway robbery in the truest sense. You can try Chez Christophe in North Burnaby I've had friends pick up a few things for me before but I'm limited to their baked goods only and they're really not a sit in place. If dine-in ambiance matters just go to a place like Soirette on West Pender for high tea and call it a day. |
CAFE JOIE | ? | If you're into shaved ice and waffles check this place out. It's a nice little Korean cafe across from Metro on Sussex Ave. GF and I have been hitting up this place almost weekly for their "Patbingsu" , basically shaved frozen milk with red bean, fruits, etc. Just something different from cheesecakes.. |
Heartstock shaved ice is good. Another place I've found in the last month is Crackle Creme in chinatown Crackle Crème | Gourmet Crème Brûlée | 245 Union Street Vancouver BC save a dollar if you get it as take out and pretty good. |
+ 1 for Ganache in Yaletown. The owner/chef, trained in Paris, makes really good passion fruit chocolate cakes. |
Camelia Tea on Royal Oak and Imperial! Owners are the kids of the owner of Accord Noodle House (now known as Bowwow Noodles..or something). Awesome place to kick back with some tea, coffee and desserts!! Also really like Icy bar on kingsway. Same owner as the Cherry Icy Bar in Crystal mall and Parker place. Best red bean ice cream icy EVER!!! |
