just a little info for people that didn't know this:

You are allowed 1 'free ticket' per license plate for the City of Vancouver. If you call the ticket in to the number on the back, you can ask them if you can get it waived since it's your first ticket on your plate. they will check and if it is, the person can waive your ticket.

This only applies for the first ticket for your license plate. if you change your plate, it'll cost you the same as paying off the ticket anyways so that's not really a way to 'cheat the system' if that what some of you are thinking in order to escape 1 ticket.

btw, i know this because my friend writes tickets for the city of vancouver. he told me this and i've tried it. it works.

note - this is only for the city of vancouver...not sure if other municipalities do this or not.

fuck them! dont pay them.
I remember i parked on main mall at ubc for about 2 hours, came back with a ticket.
the ticket officer saw me too, i ripped it up in his face and threw it in the garbage.
he couldn't really do much, he said he was going to tow my car next time
im like, alright man, i'll see you at the impound lot.
changed plate, nothing happened HAHA, poor guy giving out tickets without anyone paying for them.

PS. off-topic, but does anyone know what happened to the trial between the person and UBC parking?! who won?! still going?!

No offence but you sound like a douche. Who cares if you are going to swap plates. The parking guy's just doing his job and doesn't need to take your bullshit.

I think that's the only way, breaches the privacy act though imo

I believe (without looking it up) that there are special provisions in law for certain entities, such as private parking providers, to obtain basic information from your plates. They're not going to get things like your birth date or other shit that can be used for identity theft, only the name and mailing address of the vehicle's registered owner.

I've only gotten one from Impark a couple of years ago and they're still bugging me about it every so often via the telephone. No credit damage. I find dealing with their calls on occasion to be well worth saving the $68 they're asking from me for being 15 mins overtime back then.

I still park at Impark occasionally. They won't tow you unless you haven't paid for a ticket.

i had a ticket from Imperial Parking from awhile ago....
they just sent me a letter from City COLLECTIONS to pursue the ticket... wtf....
though they cant get ahold of you.....
this is a COLLECTION AGENCY......

This is only for a meter ticket. otherwise if you do not pay a ticket, there is now a mandatory minimum fine after the 34 days and/or if you book the ticket for court.
$60 for meter tickets and $90 for stuff like no stopping anytime and hydrants.

i got one from city collections.... for 70 bucks... its from imperial parking canada corporation... guess i can throw it out?

Gachinto 12-06-2008 02:18 AM

It's not worth it for them to sue you for small amounts, but unless you have an huge stack of tickets then it will be profitable to get you for it.

it's so stupid when this place called Diamond parking gives you a parking ticket... you can't even pay it through ICBC... you gotta pay it in person(their head office is in langley...) or over phone with a credit card WTF.

Then don't pay it.

DPS is a joke anyway. Google it up, some pretty good (but long) reads...

NX1701 02-04-2009 12:00 PM

I got a Diamond ticket in Dec, and changed the plate a couple weeks later. And just yesterday I still got a the letter in the mail. Did I wait too long to change the plate?

ws6ta 02-04-2009 01:21 PM

they send parking tickets to collections so quick. i forgot to pay a few tickets I got in white rock and that shit was at collections within 2 months

luibei 02-04-2009 05:32 PM

its not worth it when dealing with city/municipal tickets, just pay it early since it's half price $30 for meters, and $45 for other violations rather than go to court n lose n having to pay60/90 respectively (the minimum nowadays cant go lower) AND risk paying more if you were an ass at the time.

lil_kid 02-09-2009 01:18 PM

hey guys! i recently got a ticket from parksmart recently (whom i've never heard of before) it claims to be a private owned company so i guess no payment is needed?? i'm just worried about it affecting my credit score..thanks!

for the nguyen! 02-16-2009 09:22 AM

just found out that i racked up $120 in parking tickets from impark dating back to 2006 on my parents' van.

does anyone have a link to any relevant laws that says parking tickets can't affect credit ratings? i'd like to show my parents to give them peace of mind.

underscore 03-13-2009 05:21 PM

^ me too, my letter from ImPark came today. Apparently I have 14 days to pay or it goes to collections, although the dummies don't give me a date to start counting from.

la dee da and on I go with my life, 1 paper airplane richer.
