parking tickets I know before you could rack up parking tickets, and still renew your insurance/change your plate so nothing would happen. My friend told me they just the rules now so that you cannot renew your insurance without paying them off first. Is that true? |
yeah i think i heard something along those lines as well i know that if u get a parking ticket not from the city of vancouver (ie. UBC) you don't need to pay it before you renew |
That's what I thought too, if its not from the city itself then they can't do anything. But just wondering if the rules really did change. |
If you have any outstanding Municipal By-law tickets, they will issue warrants to have you arrested sooner or later. Not being able to renew your insurance is not so scary now eh? |
hahaha yeah that is scary. I just have an Impark one and I got a metro parking one. |
Vancouver was talking about having ICBC "enforce" their bylaw tickets that way, but the last I heard, ICBC was categorically denying to do so. Private parking firms like Impark, Metro, EasyPark, etc. will never have that option, and can't have you arrested either. |
That's why we screw around with private parking, using our hinted methods XD *EDIT* this means, no need to hassel with tickets :D |
I know I have racked up at least three parking tickets from SFU. It's been a year now and nothing happened. |
What private parking companies CAN do, is impound your car if you're on their lot and have unpaid tickets, since technically their lots are their private property. It's no different than if some random person parks on your lawn - after a certain period of time, you have the right to place a lien on the vehicle and have it towed away. |
or worse, they can send a collections agency after you, which will hound the fuck outta you. |
Yeah, but other than being harassing, they can't do much else to you... they can't pooch your credit record. |
Doesn't matter if it changed: - If it's by city, pay it - If it's by Impark or Diamond etc, fuck it |
Thanks guys, all I needed to know. Just my insurance renewal is coming up so I was worried. If I change plates too they shouldn't be able tow me right? |

City tickets are different though, and i don't think you can really mess with those ones. |

and if you are worried about muni tickets... just change your license plate :D |
My friend owned Metro Parking, now sold to Impark. But he can still get all my tickets cancelled. So I usually park for free. Yay me. |
UBC, SFU, impark, diamond, etc. fuck them! dont pay them. I remember i parked on main mall at ubc for about 2 hours, came back with a ticket. the ticket officer saw me too, i ripped it up in his face and threw it in the garbage. he couldn't really do much, he said he was going to tow my car next time im like, alright man, i'll see you at the impound lot. changed plate, nothing happened HAHA, poor guy giving out tickets without anyone paying for them. PS. off-topic, but does anyone know what happened to the trial between the person and UBC parking?! who won?! still going?! |
Check this link out: http://www.canada.com/theprovince/st...af2e44&k=19921 A judge has approved a class-action suit against UBC after a Vancouver chartered accountant sued the university, alleging its parking regulations are illegal. If the judge agrees with Daniel Barbour's arguments, some 100,000 people who have paid nearly $4 million in fines and towing charges since 1990 would be eligible to receive a refund from the university. |
privately owned and issued parking tickets can get a collection agency after you, and also i believe do something to go after ur credit. |

-Parking tickets + collection agency = will NOT affect credit rating. Parking ticket isn't a loan of credit, or bill. It's technically an invoice. They can sue you for trespassing if they have enough evidence but they won't because that'd be shooting themselves in the foot. -Once you get a few tickets under a certain license plate, switch it up, or else your car will get towed next time you park in their lots. They can only register banned plates into their system, they can't consult ICBC to look up your info on your new plate. Example: my plate that says 911bmw gets 20 tickets, if I park in impark, i get towed. if i switch it to 522jxx, i start at 0 tickets all over, and they won't be able to find out the plate is still on the same car that previously got 20 tickets -If collections harasses you, fuck around with them. But make sure you're recording the convo and say some funny stuff, then post it on youtube or revscene. Put my name in the credits. |
how can a private parking company, like impark, acquire your name and address based on your plate? did they ask icbc and icbc handed the info to them? |
