I think you're right. My bad.

The terms get thrown around a lot and I must have gotten confused.

As you know, you have to hit up a fair number of crappy places to figure out which ones are good. Especially, when it comes to ethnic foods.

Reading up on here and having a lot of friends of different ethnicities helps but ultimately, you have to go, figure out the differences and find what suits you. Then there are the places that are decent for a quick lunch or w/e and the places you go for a good, soilid quality dinner/weekend meal.

The culinary version of "you have to kiss a lot of frogs to find Prince Charming". Especially when it comes to ethnic princes

The ethnic princess could end up being a dude if you don't know what you're doing.

We're lucky. Even if you go to a food court to get Japanese, Vietnamese, Chinese or even Greek, there's a guy from that country cooking. Worst case, you get a Korean guy making sushi. You go to a food court in the States and they're all Mexican.

Specialty Chicken and Wonton House, Richmond
9/10
I ordered my favorite from there, snow cabbage with chicken vermicelli in soup.
My bf ordered the wonton noodles with extra noodles.
Good, good. I think the taste and quality of their food (their noodles, anyway) is really consistent. Service is always really friendly, especially the owner. I gave a 9/10 because I think their milk tea could be less sweet, but whatever!
Oh yeah, the bill came to a total of 13 something excluding tips. I found this strange because it's around $16 sometimes... I guess because the boss lady took our order today and didn't charge for tea or something? No idea!

Oh yeah, I wouldn't recommend their fish balls and cuttlefish balls if you ever go - they're pretty bland. But that's just my opinion!

Woot! Had Nando's again. 10/10!

I tried the Queensburough Location. That place is nice! I think its pretty new.

So far, I think the best location for Nando's is the Richmond location on #3, and the worst location is the one at Ironwood.

My somewhat brief review of the Apron

So, a couple days before Valentines, I booked a reservation for two, and they were very cooperative and asked any questions I had. Their valet parking is pretty neat, you just drive and park outside the entrance and their receptionist comes out so you give her your keys and they give you a paper so you can pick up your car later after the dinner- which is complimentary).

Food: Their menu doesn't have a lot to pick from.. Let's just say the food looked great and was presented so well it makes it seem like it tastes even better. We ordered their sunchoke soup (only soup on menu that night) , and their fresh greens salad with vinaigrette. Neither me or my girlfriend liked their sunchoke soup, but I think it's all up to personal opinion. It tasted like sunchoke indeed, but I guess it's not something that we'd enjoy, it's probably something for those who want to try a "different" kind of soup or just love sunchoke (5.5/10) . My salad was okay, it was around $12 and was better than the soup.. (7/10). We also got house amuse bouches. It was pretty much a small appetizer with minature vegetable garden, lipstick radish, mexican cucumber, young carrot and popcorn soil. It was alright, and looked great, no complaints since it's "on the house" (7/10).
Next came our main dishes. We ordered their Sablefish and Pacific Provider Salmon with provencal tart, sun choke, braised fennel and split corriander vinaigrette. Their Sablefish was the best dish I had there, the skin was extremely crispy and just outshined everything else we had (9.5/10). Their Pacific Provider Salmon was good too, but didn't have the "wow" factor the sablefish had. The salmon was really soft too, don't think I've ever had cooked salmon that soft before (8/10). We didn't order deserts.

Service: Service was friendly and attentive. Our server was really nice and always had a smile on her face. Refilled our glasses of water a couple times after we finished a dish. Also, our server and this gentleman came by every time to introduce our dish to us with kindness, which was neat. It makes it seem that much more "professional" and a bit more special to eat there. Their valet parking is great as well, opened the door for us on the way out and even opened the car doors for us. (9/10)

Value: Hmm, this really depends on your budget and how much you're willing to spend. Their appetizers/salads are ranging from $12-18, main courses are all mostly $25, and their desserts were all around $10-$15. The end of our meal, which was a salad, soup, and two main courses came to around $85 with tax/tips included. Again, can't rate this because it depends on your budget, but to me it was alright, not exactly worth every dollar for me.

Ambiance: The ambience was great (for valentines- maybe every night?), lights were dimmed, there was a candlelight and a flower in a small vase on every table. Although it looks very "loungey", it kind of has a identity crisis between being a lounge and a restaurant. (8/10)

Overall, I'd rate the Apron a 7/10. If you'd like to try something new (molecular gastronomy) and have a good budget for a dine out, then it'd be worth the experience. However, their servings aren't exactly huge so don't expect to be filled up on an empty stomach However, note that it's an alright-romantic place to dine out, so don't expect something that'd make your date spin her head!

PS: I'll try to post pictures we took of the dishes we had that night!

Really? I think the one at Metrotown is better! But only because I find the one on no.3 to be too burnt and not spicy enough.

My bf and I went to Bistro the One on Alexandra today. We both really liked it! They list the restaurant as "Asianized" pasta. The ambience was really good. It was kind if dim inside (but not too dim) and they had jazzy music playing in the background. We went around 2pm so there were only two other tables besides ours. I ordered the mare pasta with extra virgin olive oil, which came with way more seafood than I expected. Oh yeah, each order of pasta came with a choice of free soup or salad along with a free drink. Anyway, I really liked my pasta, but the evoo hot really bland after a while and I didn't enjoy it as much. But my bf really enjoyed his gamberoni pasta with tomato sauce! His sauce was very chunky with lots of tomatoes. I didn't try it, but he really liked it.

Oh yeah, the soup was really good as well! The only choice we had was creamy corn, but it smelled amazing when it came, and tasted very creamy and buttery. They seemed to only have one waitress at the time, but she was really friendly and attentive. I'd give this place a 10/10 and will be going back

The one inside the Metrotown Foodcourt is by far, the worst Nando's of the entire franchise.

You pay for the name, when you go to Tojo's. You can get that quality and execution elsewhere too!
