Chilli Pepper House 6.5/10

Hit and miss with the portions/flavor but much better than what it was before. It's above mediocre and it was pretty busy there (probably because it was a Tuesday)

Hot Oven Pizza

This place is literally 5 minutes from home.
And after hearing friends rave about it for ages, one more mention from a different group of friends this past weekend pushed me over the edge.

People have described it as deep dish pizza. I disagree.
I think it's closer to conventional delivery pizza, but topping heavy.

Cheeseburger Deluxe
Beef, bacon, mushroom, onions, bbq sauce, cheddar.
Not too shabby. Good amount of meat, bacon (was ground up?) and sort of buried in with the ground beef. The bbq sauce wasn't overdone. Personal preference would be to skip it.

Orient
BBQ duck, chicken, green onion, tomato, pesto.
Omg. duck on pizza? So good. Chicken is hidden with the duck, you can't even tell it's chicken. This pizza is VERY heavy on chinese bbq duck spices, I'd almost even say too much. A touch on the salty side.
People mentioned this pizza before. Was well beyond expectations.

Both pizzas were heavy on toppings, but even after taking it home, the crust was not wet or soggy.

8.5/10

*(I usually give delivery pizza 6ish).

^ i tried this place today based on your recommendation and was not disappointed. the orient pizza was AMAZING. also had mozzarella sticks which were nothing special, garlic bread which was nothing special, and sweet chilli wings which were actually pretty good.

but the pizza is obviously the must try thing here. a little bit on the pricey side ($20 for a medium) but obviously the amount of toppings and quality of food (head and shoulders above places like domino's) make it worth it.

will definitely come back even if it's a little far for me.
i would give it a 9/10 just on the pizza alone. and yes its pretty amazing how the crust doesn't get soggy even with the amount of toppings and sauce the pizza has.

Smokehouse Sandwich Co.
https://www.facebook.com/SmokehouseSandwichCo

10/10

Pretty small menu but sandwich is really good. Forgot the name of the sandwich I ordered but it is the one with the brisket. I had the strawberry mint for drinks. You wont spend more than $12 for a meal with a drink. Unless of course you get two sandwiches. Friendly people too.

^ Nice, they are definitely friendly folks and it's a different type of food coming from Richmond. I hope they continue to get more exposure and business; their place is hidden away with little foot traffic.

pho vinh surrey beside bubble world

food: 8.5/10 soup has a bit of a sweet taste to it

be careful when you are paying, they tell you to go to the counter and just tell you the amount and don't show you any bill, they over charged me $1 for a bill that was $16 and charged me $17 on top of tips.

I realized it as I was out the door already so i didnt bother going back to ask them.

Hit this place up last week too.
I got the pork belly sandwich.

9/10 on sandwich.
Easily the best sandwich I've had in a long time.

7.5/10 for the chips.
It's not the perfect fry job, but not too shabby either.
Note that you salt them yourself. They had a nice smoked salt to shake on them

Would definitely go back.

Fuck, place is garbage, went for a birthday and shit is so overpriced it's crazy, it's not even a step up from cactus etc yet they charge 150% what those places do

Couple people shared their bog Kodiak steak or whatever, 50oz, wanted med-rare came out well, returned no problem but by the time second steak was done everyone else was done eating

$155 for 4 drinks, 2 entree's and a couple of their statays? Fuck that. Could eat a million times better for the price at countless other places.

4/10

I don't understand how those restaurants are successful. Overpriced, under delivering, and not to mention the controversy of the owners stealing tips from their staff! Fucking garbage restaurants with no ethics.

Took my 5 year old daughter on a date last weekend to Black and Blue.

I've been there a few times, however service was very inconsistent.

However this time when i made my reservations, i told them what i was doing and wanted to make it a memorable experience.

They had what i thought was a perfect table for 2 set up for us inside, but right beside the patio so my daughter could enjoy the street view but not be too bothered by the outside street noise. the staff were very attentive all night and made sure they kept asking her if she needed anything.

When we sat down, it was quite funny. the waiter handed us our menus. me, the regular dinner menu, and her a kid's menu. She asked "whats that?" and was told it was a kid's menu. she then said "i dont want that thanks, im here for steak" lol.

anyways, their ribeye was delicious, and so were the mac and cheese sticks.
we finished the night with a complimentary Butter Cake that was ridiculously amazing. i wanna go back just for that.

Black and Blue for daddy/daughter date night was def a 10/10

Taishoken Ramen

3/10

- broth wasn't hot enough
- broth was a little bland
- noodles and meat were just ok
- the egg was cold and too raw

I've had the egg at other ramen places and it's usually not cold and a bit runny but not straight up raw. When we asked the waitress she says all their eggs come cold like that, ok no problem if that's how you serve it but our eggs were way beyond runny it was practically raw.

Did you get 1,2,3 or 4? because those are dipping ramen, they are meant to be eaten cold.

According to the menu, only the first ramen on there was the dipping ramen. The rest were your regular ramen in soup and I got the "special" one which came with more meat and seaweed. Like I said, the cold part ok I'll accept but the essentially raw part was a bit too much. I love me some runny eggs but this was not one of them.

Sushi by Yuji 9.5/10

Best sushi I've had since I was last in japan.
I went for the omakase. To be honest though, I never really eat "real" sushi in vancouver.
often go to korean run places for cheap sushi like sushi garden to actually get a fill.

And there's absotlutely nothing wrong with that approach either. What I facepalm about though is when people hit those places and thinking they're 9/10 places. Nanaimo sushi comes to mind lol

I had their whole wheat udon. it was pretty good. pretty fresh, but nothing special.
. Their sushi was also good for the price. I ordered their.salmon maki, expecting 6small roll, but when they arrived they were huge.

Agreed. I eat a lot for a guy my size so gotta eat at this places to get a fill.
I usually order the medium party tray for myself at sushigarden. It still is fairly enjoyable in its own way.

Went to Kita no Donburi today with the GF during a lunch rush. Awesome place, we both really enjoyed our food. Service was very efficient and food came out shortly after paying for food.
I got the Ikura don and zaru soba. She got the kakuni don(pork belly)
the pork belly was awesome, no super salty and melted in your mouth.
9/10
