HOLY SMOKES! My GF and I have never eaten Viet food this good before. We both had tea, I had a coke $2.50

Appetizer: we each had a bbq chicken salad roll $7.50 for both.

Main: I had the special mixed beef with rice noodle soup#1. The taste, freshness of ingredients and preparation was beyond anything I had eaten before. highly recommended! $8.95 I was going to try some of the other Chef recommended soups, but some of those ingredients kinda scared me (eh, gimme a break, I'm not Asian!).

GF: She had #31. Again, piles of fresh ingredients (far more than what we are used to from a Viet restaurant...she loves that!) flavorful spring rolls and grilled chicken $10.50.

After this huge feast we were full and satisfied! We've had Viet food in Sask, and Alberta. Neither province had anything in comparison to quality. we paid about $30 for everything but given the service and meal would have paid $40 and not thought twice about it.

We'll back again, a solid 9/10
I go here specifically for the thai hotpot thing which is sooo good

Spud Shack

small poutine - 7/10

curds were squeaky, but gravy was perhaps a bit on the salty side

pulled pork sandwich - 5/10

wife got this, and thought the pork was not pulled enough. it was basically chunks. She ended up taking a few bites, and then worked on the fries. Fries were nice and crispy. I took the rest home, pulled it apart myself, and it was quite tasty.

Service was slow. There were only 2 people working at the time.

Drove by Jean Talon Poutinerie on Sunday to check it out, saw the word Poutine and couldn't resist.
Was surprised it was actually owned and operated by a Japanese family. What part of Jean Talon is Japanese I have no idea lol... but no matter I dove ahead anyway. They have quite the selection of around 20+ poutine flavours and some random odd items like Katsu Curry and Tonkatsu Sandwich.

The server recommended the Mushroom Sauce based Poutine, it was pretty good but kind of pricey for $18. Me and my friend shared that and the pork sandwich which was decent. Service was friendly but not very fast.

7/10

Then went for round 2 at Pizza Barberella 2 stores down cuz more friends were joining.
Ordered 2 pizzas, the balboa and the salsiccia.
The balboa was loaded with meat and definitely had some heat. I enjoyed it but was too spicy for my friend. Flavour was good but the bottom crust was way too soggy which was a turnoff. The Salsiccia was more simple and and a bit bland.

7/10

golden train for pho
1/10
i was craving pho at 5am in the morning and there was no other options....
It just reminded me why I haven't been there in years.
Instant noodles would have been a better option.

Every time I drive by, I'm surprised at how it's still in business. That place has sucked for over a decade.

Isn't the 24 hours place in Victoria and Kingsway still open? (across from mcdonalds)

I prefer that over gold train anyday for a 24 hour place.

Went to West recently.

Got the Tuna tartar with striped prawns. 9/10 Perfect amount of tartness and the fresh wasabi gave it a good kick at the end.

Daily Seafood Creation. Today was Halibut with succotash. 7.5/10
Very good, nothing to complain about. However i felt it was missing a slight acidity.

Chocolate Taster 10/10.
Chocolate in 6 different forms and all in balance. most importantly i didn't find it too sweet.

Definitely will go back if wallet allows.

i tried Juke's fried chicken the first day it opened. The meat itself is definitely flavourful. The skin however it's a bit too crunchy for me but some people might like it that way.
the mac and cheese is quite delicious though.

I am in need of some suggestions! A good friend of mine is having a birthday dinner, but has no idea where to go. Would prefer a seafood place, but is not a deal breaker if it's not. It's for a group of 10-15 people, with a price similar to Miku or Blue Water.

Pho Thai Hang 2

Duck "salad" with side of pho w/ bamboo
Not sure the name exactly. Seems like one of their house specialties.
Seem like the regulars were getting this, so I got one too.
iirc, $11ish?
Generous amount of meat for the price over cabbage topped with fried shallots and peanuts.
Pho seemed like... maybe a chicken stock? The bamboo was an interesting component.
Delicious Highly recommend.
Another option was duck w/ congee.

Their spring roll skin is different than most places, it's not smooth, but crinkly and bumpy. Less thin and shatteringly crisp.
It has a sweetness to it. I like them.
Portion size is average.

Seems like a rice cake topped with shredded dried shrimp and croutons.
iirc, this was $1
The shrimp had a bit of pungency to it.
A good snack.

I'm so totally going back for the duck + pho combo.
Loved it.
