I think it's around a $280 fine or so (from the UBC deactivation thread) for trying to fool the system.

Otherwise, it's about a $75 fine for no ticket.

lol, my two buddies forgot to buy a ticket one time, and they were rushing to my basketball game, so they randomly picked up 2 tickets and in coincidence , the sky pigs were on patrol, so obviously the tickets were expired and they ran from the station, unluckly they ran after them, but they didnt get caught.

i remember a skypig letting me go once, i simply told him i was in a rush to my moms place and they let me go without a warning =)

too bad that didn't work when canada won the olympics men's hockey semi-finals huh?

Nothing happens to the original owner right? I mean, I can just say that I lost it and never got a new one because I don't use it anyway.

apparently for ubc it can show up on your transcript as academic dishonesty or sthing like that..i remember reading it

best times to ride the skytrain for free is during rush hour.

The trains are so packed that cops can't come in and check.

impactX 07-06-2010 11:06 PM

Would be interesting to see someone being charged for fraud under 5k for doing this.

Yeah but they have to prove that the original owner actually gave the upass. It could have been lost or stolen.

Jgresch 07-06-2010 11:22 PM

I rented out my u-pass to a buddy for 10 bucks/week, I didn't get my upass exemption form thing in on time :( so had to put it to use.

Greenstoner 07-07-2010 07:20 AM

no matter what you do, just remeber there is no free ride even with canucks or Team canada winning on game day

Mugen EvOlutioN 07-07-2010 07:39 AM

That is correct a co-worker always rides the skytrain to work during rush hour and never gets caught.

I found a UPass on the ground one time in highschool and used it for 3 months until it expired. Awesome.

achiam 07-07-2010 11:47 AM

Back in UBC days I would always wear a UBC sweater or t-shirt when boarding the bus. As soon as they saw my Chinese Science Nerd face they wouldn't even look at the UPass I was holding. I think they only ever closely looked at it 10% of the time.

will068 07-08-2010 12:58 AM

I used to sell my Upass back when those leeches at SFU initiated the program.

I'm sorry, but taking the public transit from West Richmond to Burnaby wasted valuable hours. Especially for a guy who had 4 jobs + a full course load.

BinsentoW 07-08-2010 02:09 AM

lol, alphamale got 4 thanks for his 2 year old post on the first page

wow!

now this is a true loop hole in the system.

If you're slick enough, you could even scratch it right when the officer asks you to show your ticket. Pull ticket + scratch at the same time while still in pocket.

when people sell you their U passes.. they always just sell the one that was mailed.. while they get a new one from school on the first day...i think if anything ever comes back to them, they will just say they lost their original one.. one thing translink could do is actually make everyone scan their pass, but i understand the time it will waste everyone during rush hours... =.=

I don't take the skytrain often enough. But when I did for work,
it was so jam packed, I doubt any officers would be able to come in and check.
I never seen any anyway.

I think if you're not gonna pay, then it's best to be more alert.
If you see officers outside, don't panic, they won't necessarily come inside.
But start moving slowly and casually away from the doors near them, and make your way to
another train, since they're all connected.

If you're far away enough, they probably won't reach you before the next station.

I wouldn't suggest gtfo, cause it would be too obvious. Since they walk in just as
the doors are about to close, and if you run out then, an officer outside will trap you.

Elements604 01-06-2011 06:05 PM

Anyone ever try photocopying the upass since usually they dont make you put it in the machine??

bcedhk 01-06-2011 06:11 PM

cops check id if your upass is suspicious. @ the skytrain a few days ago, cops were checking both ID and upass holders.

Jermyzy 01-06-2011 10:53 PM

I was on the Canada line last week, and they did a random ticket check. There was a Chinese lady who had a book of passes but obviously did not validate it prior to getting on the train. She pretended to keep looking for a ticket in her pockets hoping the transit people would just go past her, but they just waited until she could produce the validated ticket - which she couldn't. Then she tried the "I don't speak English" card, but they pulled her off at the next station anyways. They were nice at least, only pulled her off to validate one of her passes, and didn't fine her or anything.

^
no fine?

now she's gonna keep pulling that stunt.
