Drug home this hunk of junk!

97 Impreza Wagon absolute f'ing base model... but for some strange reason the motor is the back seat (the EJ18 had spun a bearing)! Still not a bad car for $700. Plan is to put an EJ25 in it, add the 00-01 RS kit, and paint the entire car dark blue (has some rust that needs to be repaired, and the wife isnt a big fan of the color) with some Rota slips that I have coated in gunmetal.

and this is what she wants the car to look like...

Shall add more pics once she washes the damn thing.

That would probably be funnier if tyson had any spare parts, and wasn't moving away.

Hehe... play nice kids. You old schoolers probably know the previous owner, Ahn bought Flounder's old CRX. I figured the car would be in better shape, but I think we can make it a very nice grocery/dog hauler for our $5-6k budget. Trips to Victoria cost me $20 in my 13mpg truck so something bigger than the Civic and way better on gas is required. This gives me a really good excuse to buy all the new tools I have room for at the new house.

I'll make a classifieds post and more pictures to come when it warms up and I can wash the thing.

Ahn eh? We are indeed talking old school import history

All those Subes' were AWD right? It too bad a turbo mill would defeat the fuel economy goals

Well apparently I'm not very good at washing cars...

I got in trouble with the wife for speeding on the way home... ol red may be a lil anemic but but had no issues pulling ~4000lbs.

Need some weed killer... that red tree went from bare to as pictured within a week.

Yucky interior... nothing simple green and a bit of bleach cant handle.

Wait a minute, this doesnt belong here...

It belongs here!

And for good measure, ol black snotty...

Haha, really? I've seen what I'm guessing was your Civic (white EH, big aux lights) on Sooke Road before, but none of the rest of the fleet around the neighborhood.

Well, pyannaco came over yesterday, and an hour of work later we had the tranny installed... so far this thing is stupidly easy to work on although I'm quite annoyed with missing bolts... I haven't found quite the right the bolt for the axle thru-bolt and want to know exactly what I should be looking for or purchasing. Sure I could stuff a 1/4" bolt the right length in there, but thats not right

Another question is if this trans is supposed to dump gear oil everywhere out of the tail shaft when the front of the trans is elevated and the driveshaft hasn't been pressed into place. The seal looks like its supposed to seal against the driveshaft, hence then mess on my garage floor that I just f'ing mopped.

I ordered an JDM EJ25D this morning that should be here next week. Hopefully have this thing running by the end of the month. Still need to get a new clutch, front driverside axle, and throwout bearing.

Axle pins are a roll pin, not a bolt

Yes, the trans tail shaft is open to the inside of the trans, its normal.

I've got a light flywheel, exedy stage 1 clutch and throwout bearing, all brand new. If you're willing to throw down a few notes, PM me.

Feel free to give me a call about any of this stuff too, there isn't a bolt on a subie I havent touched.

FYI, I bought the car that way. The PO pulled the trans thinking it was easier to do the clutch?! If you knew him, you could understand his backward thinking. I wasn't concerned at the time because I was going to swap in an EJ22T as Splinter mentioned.

Hey Ahn! I thought you said you bought the car that way... yeah, reinstalling the transmission was stupidly simple, except for a few missing bolts and only 1.5 roll pins for the axles. Was the driver side front CV bad or was it destroyed during removal?

I've ordered pretty much everything to get the car moving now except for the midpipe... still waiting on a return call from Malahat. Looks like we're going to come in just under budget to get the entire thing done for $5k. Although UPS brokerage will probably eat the extra $101 in my budget and I've been unable to source 00-01 OBS spoilers.

Goal is to have it running by the end of the month, and sporting fresh paint and all the 2.5RS goodies by the end of July for our road trip into Northern BC... if only my Nova project moved this fast

I'd think up some plastic body panel joke, but far too tired.

I kept telling Kaitlyn that wagons are far cooler than sedans... I think she's finally starting to realize that. I love that truck, except for the 13mpg business. Dont know if I should I do a LQ swap or just upgrade to a newer GM fullsize.

In other news, started grinding off some rust... looks like everything will be salvageable.

With a couple of lower MPG cars in your fleet now, a fullsize might make you happier for towing your toys around with greater ease.

Wagon will get 22-25mpg... with how Kaitlyn drives, 25mpg is fair.

But the sad news is my purple 3m found some real bad metal, and I have to make two little patches... one is only .5" x 1" right about the bumper mount, and the other is 1"x2" below the bumper mount. Could be far far worse but I have a really good excuse to go buy a welder.
