Help with lawncare!

So my first time owning a home so I've never had to really deal with lawns before. Anyways, I have not been living in the house for past 3 months due to house rennovations, so now my lawn is probably 20% inhabited by weeds now. I bought some weed claw device and pulled out all the big ones, but I still got tons of other weeds (e.g. those little purple flowers, clover, creeping charlie, etc). What is the easiest way to get my lawn in half-decent shape without having to dig it all out and re-do the whole lawn?! Should I buy those sprays that are supposed to kill weeds but not harm grass?! Any help is appreciated!

Congrats Jermyzy.... i am in the same boat as you... what i ended up doing was digging everything up. After i was done.. i then sprayed some weed killer on it. I was worried that while pulling out some weeds, parts of the root MAY still be there. I can't see how doing gardening work is relaxing.. lol !!

in anycase.. i am done for this year and will wait till next year to start landscaping...

You guys have to get one or two of these badboys for pulling weeds:
http://www.canadiantire.ca/browse/pr...=1286042004881
makes it easy and fast to dig up the roots of the weed

1 mistake to avoid which I made in the early summer... weed wacking dandy lions! worse thing you can ever do since those bastards will grow back 10-fold!

the next thing I would do is spray Weed & Feed all over the lawn
http://www.homedepot.ca/webapp/wcs/s...k=P_PartNumber

In terms of moss, in the spring spread lime on your lawn. Lime will help the pH of your lawn which will get rid of that moss.

Anyways this is all advice I've been told, I'm also in the same boat as you guys... I have put the weed claw in action and its a must have!

Good luck finding weed killer. It's banned in a lot of places now.

I keep getting fucking Racoons or Skunks ripping out my lawn. Our lawn was perfect during the summer, now these little bitches come out at night and tear it a new asshole.

Both crows and skunks/racoons actually. Chafer beetle grubs eat the roots of grass and then other animals dig up the unrooted grass for the grubs. Properly maintained lawns that are dethatched regularly are usually fine. Its the unmaintained ones that are usually hit. There are pesticide companies that have the spray to kill/prevent the grubs.

^I agree, except it's too late in the season to apply (buy) nematodes!

depending on the exact weed(s) the best are killex and roundup. killex, weed one, turlon, weedbgone, will take care of leafy, dicot weeds (ie dandelion). something intense would be roundup. it will take care of everything including grasses so becareful.

lots of these herbicides are controlled or banned nowadays cuz it kills more than just plants. always use protection like rubbers.......gloves, eyewear, masks as well.

if u do go w/ chemical herbicides, don't overdo it otherwise the weeds will gradually build resistance to it.

To get rid of the moss and beetle grubs.. aerate your lawn and use a good weed and feed. Also Lime is a must to restore the PH of the lawn. If you have a lot of moss it might be a good idea to get your lawn power raked. It will pull up all the moss and then you can overseed the lawn with new seed.

Berz out.

It's true. If you go to any of the hardware stores, most of their products are going more towards greener products.

Hey guys, I have a similar problem. Im moving into a house next week and the lawn is not in great shape. Alot of crab grass and uneven ground, it's a 1/4 acre lot, so digging it up will be time consuming. Im wondering if it is worth my while to do anything now, or should I wait until after winter is over?
