I like Andales, there's one downtown and one on West Broadway. You can get their combo dinner, and it's absolutely filling! They're also in the Entertainment Book if you're looking for value.

Dona Cata is by far the best

the new best place is don guacamole and to tell you the truth, that place SUCKED ASS. I went in, there's nothing authentic (decor wise), but cause it's new and hip, they have expanded to the site beside them.

la margarita is just super gay, long wait and the food isn't even that great.

Dona Cata is awesome. They hired me to take the food shots for their website. Now I get free food there. :)

+1 for Dona Cata. I go there at least twice a month, and ALWAYS order the Gringa with the slow-braised lamb

Don Guacamoles? They recently expanded into the space next door so now it's twice the size.

Just had three Mexi Cali beef tacos for lunch. Maybe coz I had it for takeout, but the shells seemed stale, beef was dry. The red sauce on top was tasty. It wasn't unappetizing, just not very good.

There's a authentic mexican join in Whalley of all places. Really good food and all of the times I have gone is was packed with mexicans. I forgot the name tho.

Where is this Dona Cata near. I don't want to head down there with nothing to do after.

Someone posted the site earlier its in East Van. So do whatever you usually do in E. Van, which is probably nothing.

bcrdukes 11-13-2009 09:03 PM

Seriously?

Dona Cata

Dona Cata is the best in Vancouver. My Mexican friends all love it, and will take their families there when they come to visit from Mexico.

So I went to Dona Cata tonight for dinner with my lady friend.

Food: 8.5/10 - Food came out fast but also got cold fast. Felt like it was already cooked and left sitting there and was heat up to be served. I wouldn't mind waiting an extra 10 or 15 minutes if it were fresh. Loved their salsas - by far the best I've had. All in all - pretty authentic.

Ambience: 8.5/10 - Felt pretty authentic inside. Something similiar to what you'd run into in SoCal or Mexico. Music was a little too loud but at the same time, felt like a fast food joint where you go up to get your own salsa.

Service: 7.5 maybe an 8/10 - We were seated promptly. Got our tortilla chips and food came pretty quickly but was nothing spectacular. They stay out of your face unless you call for them. Nothing to really complain about would be the bottom line.

Price: 8.5/10 - Because this is not Mexico or SoCal, the prices aren't bad for the amount of food we ordered. 3 tacos and two entres came to $28 and change before tip. My lady friend and I were so full, we couldn't finish our food. Cost-to-value was not bad.

Enjoy! :)

I didn't want to make a new thread about "Bandidas Taqueria". How is this restaurant on Commercial/12th Avenue? I always drive by it at night and it seems pretty nice and packed with people. Anyone care to share some info/light?

Thanks!
