it's a pretty good job. but keep in mind that there will be no guns at the airport.
also, if you get sent to the ports, know that there's tonnes.and i mean TONNES of corruption and blind eye turning. baffles the mind actually regarding how organized it is.

also, if you fail the test, you must wait 6 months to rewrite it. however, (and this is where the bureaucracy kicks in) you cant just write the test...you must reapply...which you can not do for 2yrs if you fail. so basically it's a 2yr wait.
and when you go for training theres 8 or 9 tests? and if you fail one at any point during training, you will be shipped back.

during my time it was not doable for people who had families and a ft job here as i doubt that one's employer would be very receptive to the following:
worker: hey gotta minute?
boss: sure, whats up?
worker: i need to quit..kinda...i'm applying for a job and need to go away for 3months. at the end of that term, i will let you know if i want to stay or not.

boss: uh......huh........

seriously, are you like 16 years old. The way you post, it seems like you have absolutely ZERO life experience.

Trades will not be short lived... and 50k is just enough to comfortable support one person. Sure you can live on 30k a year but it wouldn't be living.

RCMP starts at mid 40's and after 3 years you're making $75,000 BASE pay. Not including O/T. And that's just for traffic cops. Detective?... be prepared to make a lot more than that.

I remember reading about a info session @ the Justice Institute, it may have already passed though. There are usually info sessions at PRTC in Chilliwack.

Wow 4444 obviously does not understand what they do. To the everyday person they may not seem like they are doing much BUT they deal with alot a BS and Criminal elements. I know some people who work at customs, there are many different types of duties and the general public does not see alot of it. There is alot of training involved and is not easy to get hired. Do you want so dumb ass carrying a gun???

The wage is up there because they need to attract good applicants. The shifts are not 9 to 5 so you need to expect a premium on pay cause they work crazy hours.

i think they dont get paid enough contrary to what 4444 said. they are pretty much borderline cops.

i was gonna apply for this job, i even knew someone from human resources that could get me in. but the working conditions and the 6 months at quebec scared me off even though I thought working as a CBSA officer for a couple of years would look good on my resume if im going to be a police officer

oh and I thought they carry guns too at the airport?? or are those cops?

As far as I know, no one can just "get hooked up" with a job like this. If you can, I suggest you jump on it.

Everyone has to go through the usual steps:

1. write and pass the BSOT (Border Services Officer Test)
2. pass the interview
3. obtain your PAL, CPR and security clearance
4. complete 4 week online training
5. pass the 2 month CBSA training in Rigaud, Quebec.

Hardest part is the 2 month training in Rigaud. They don't dick around over there and they don't care about all the money they spent to send you there. If you fail any exams or simulations, you're on the next flight home, no second chances.
