mine's Nov 16th at 10:30. Dayum, just checked my marks and I just got owned by the Crim 330 Midterm. Hm, maybe I should have taken that by distant ed lol.

Got another MT tomorrow, studying at SFU right now. Missin out on the nucks game. Totally not liking school anymore, ever since I started working full time last year, then getting laid off due to economic recession :(

9 months of inactive schooling, damn its torture to study again.

I get good enrollment dates because of my scholarship (this term it's Nov. 9), but I've found I don't really need that (so far... second year this year).

For this term (Fall 2009) enrollment, I enrolled early this summer, but basically dropped everything I had the weekend before classes started and re-enrolled on Labour Day. Got everything I wanted, except a chemistry lab time, which I had to talk to the instructor to get.

I hear it's worse for some ECON and BUS classes though... you guys seem to have fewer spots in general/more opportunity for time conflicts.

Dropping two courses = 2 zeroes.

Good luck getting your GPA above 2.0

Even if for the 3 courses you still have, you get a B+ so a 3.33, you're still going to be below 2.0

3.33 x 3 = 9.99/5 courses = 1.98.

You better be praying to God that you get some As somehow.

I thought only F counts as getting 0 GPA and dropping doesn't, and that dropping count as if you didn't take

G 10-22-2009 12:09 AM

I thought he meant drop courses before the deadline which makes it perfectly fine

The_AK 10-22-2009 12:21 AM

On another note, how many people completed or are currently in Management Information Systems at SFU?
It sounds kinda interesting but the prof hasn't told us much about the job prospects after completing a degree in that field. Any insight?

I'm doing an MIS/Accounting concentration.

There are quite a range of jobs in MIS depending on what you have more interest in. Most people try to go for project management but there are also systems analyst positions (if you prefer more comp sci. type work), business analyst (where you sort of translate business processes), infrastructure analyst, etc. Most jobs are probably with contractors like Accenture but a lot of companies also hire in-house people.

Personally though I wouldn't suggest concentrating only in MIS because it works best as more of a supplementary concentration. For example, knowing accounting can help a lot if you're setting up a company's accounting systems/database.

But yeah, you can learn more if you take BUS 362 (which I'm TAing btw) or attend MISA information sessions. The concentration doesn't have too many people, especially compared to accounting/marketing, but it could be a plus considering every other business student at SFU is an accountant trying to become a CA.

yah you'll be fine. Only real difference from not being a crim major is you'll have to read more of the textbook rather then none of it. But for an easy upper level that's a small price to pay. Oh and you'll have to go to lecture, lose 2 hours of your day a week but nothing you can do. if you were a crim major you just have to go to tutorial and skim the textbook for quotes to cite in the assignments.

seriously, the biggest project you have to do is a journal you write once a week all semester. it's something around 12 in total, and about 3 pages double spaced. Super easy stuff though, most people can pump out like 1 an hour. the next biggest mark is just showing up and participating in the tutorial, so as long as you're not anti-social douche you can't fail. now it's been 3 years since i did it so they might have changed it up a bit.

the first one i remember was, who you are, history, and some other bio stuff. also think there was one about writing your own obituary. just have an opinion about the topics and actually think. A lot of the others was "pick a topic discussed in class and elaborate, please refer to your tutorial, textbook and lecture."

you really don't need a background in crim, most the stuff you can relate to your daily life. this is just a small concept of RJ but you get the idea what you're getting into (just change cheating with criminal offense):

ie. you cheat on your GF, that acts hurts her and destroys your relationship. You've hurt her, but not just her because that act hurts others around her . Her friends begin to doubt their relationships, her parents now have to deal with a hurting child and blah blah blah. but also that act hurts you because you're failure to communicate with her lead you to not getting your needs address, and instead you used an anti-social means to address your needs, once a cheater always a cheater right? (so how do you stop it?)

so RJ attempts to find a "safe" method to help everyone involved find peace. the most common method here would be conferencing. Now of course you would have to accept guilt and feel bad about cheating before you would be allowed to enter into a conference. the main purpose is to communicate, allow the Ex to tell you how your cheating hurt her. Her friends telling you how you hurting her hurt them and etc. You letting her know why you cheated, you get the idea.
