I left during the volume adjustment fail during the video... I had my blue RS lanyard on the desk for most of the class... lower seating 2nd from the right when facing where subhadip is. Lol i'll pay more attention to RS mobile next time and maybe try to spot people aha

LOLOLOL so I hear that K'naan didn't show up for the much anticipated peace concert at sfu
edit: so i did a little fb snooping, and found that there were obviously outraged students who conquered the cold to find out their 'humanitarian' icon flaked out.
I found this note http://www.facebook.com/note.php?note_id=454059062136 posted by some girl who was there, to express her disappointment, mentioning the charity was unable to reach their monetary goal, thus K'naan backed out.
And then I go to the K'naan fb page and the first thing I see is this: K'NAAN Amazing how human beings need a Bogeyman. It's even better when they can turn their heros to foes. #SFU check ur own backyard 4 faults.30 minutes ago via TweetPo.st

My friend was working for the concert, and I got the DL on it. This is according to him, not sure if he knew the whole story tho. Take it for what it is.
It was agreed between K'naan's manager and the school/organizers that 20k would be paid out before the performance and 20k to be paid out after the concert. But during the night of the concert, when everyone was ready, set up and all the organizers were relaxed and waiting for the show; K'naan's manager asks for the 40k upfront. Since everyone was already there and no one had an extra 20k to give him right away.
That lead to this aftermath and the consequence of him not showing up on stage.
$40 000 in total, $30/ticket, which means the concert would need around 1334 participants, and all of them squished into convo mall. Giving some fundraising/donations, let's say they needed $30 000, 1000 participants. I highly doubt that would even fit in Convo Mall I also highly doubt they got 1000 people to go.
IMO, poor organization in the first place. :P it's funny how many people are complaining about it haha.

Totally shoddy planning on iVOW's part. They didn't sell nearly enough tickets. FYI the SFSS had to give them a $12K "emergency loan" the day before because they didn't budget correctly for the stage rentals, security, et cetera... Your student fees which you can probably kiss goodbye now because I doubt iVOW is going to recoup their cost. Yes. K'naan was a bit of an asshat about it, but the organizers should bear the brunt of the blame IMO. They had little experience organizing this type of event, didn't secure enough capital, didn't promote it widely, and left things way too last minute. Posted via RS Mobile
