I had ghosh for econ 383 - he has a pretty heavy accent but he's a really nice guy and he tries his best (from what I can tell).

i was/am in the same position. decided on transferring to IAT. still computer-related, minus all the required math

Jonathon is not teaching 355. And Alex is great for development. I'm taking his 855 right now. He just writes really fugly.

yeah his writing was a bit of an issue but the guy really made developmental econ interesting. i really wanted to take 455W but unfortunately for me, hes not teaching next semester plus i dont have the econ 302 requirement. and another thing...doesnt he kind of look like roger federer? thats what i thought the very first lecture lol

Georgi gives out polarized distributions. If you put the effort though, you get a very decent mark. You could fail his 355 assignments or his 301 class only if you're a complete jackass. It's kinda sad there's a shitload of 'em in Econ.

342 or 345. How are they? Lots of graphs and calculations?

Jer3 04-01-2011 03:44 PM

hey TRDood, since your a MA student right now i thought id ask you a question about reference letters. i did really well in karaivanov's developmental econ class last semester but i didn't really "stand out" in lecture. i'm just wondering would the mark be sufficient enough to get a decent reference letter from a professor? this isn't a MA application or anything, its possibly just for my JET program application.

Jer3: References are to explain things such as how you got your grade - comment on your analytical/writing skills, etc. Having a TA who graded your assignments very fairly, while others had one who marked brutally would put things into a perspective. Especially if the rest of your grades are crap.

TRDood 04-01-2011 09:44 PM

Worth a try. I'd say anything higher than A- the prof can make shit up for references.
