best year of S2000

im looking to buy an s2000 in the near future.

im just wondering what the best year of s2000 to buy would be, and why?
i dont mind buying an 08 or 09, depending on when i buy, only if there are significant changes.

and do you personally think that an s2000 is a good purchase? why or why not?

and if someone can post up a link to the local s2000 forum then that would be great:thumbsup:

2003.....newest AP1 so you have 9k redline and glass window

hi-revs 09-26-2008 06:24 AM

^^do all the 03+ have the glass rear window and 9k redline, or only the 03's do?

and would you personally buy a US import model since its cheaper?

thats the one they slightly changed the headlight and the tailight with 8k redline and slightly better torque

BlackZRoadster 09-26-2008 07:53 AM

ive owned a 00 and a 01 ...no changes lol
02 up has glass window

the newest models have lower redline , bigger rims, better interior.
get whats in your budget, always get the newest lowest km you can afford. If you can afford a brand spankig new one DO IT!

S2k is a boy racer type car, everyone who drives it will drive it to its limit or rip it around. so get a new one that hasnt been trashed.

do you guys think that if i went for a used, say 05-present, that it would have been really raped?
im going to assume that honda's are built quite durable, so i dont have to really worry too much about the previous owner beating on it, correct?

ive thought about getting a brand new one, but thats like 60k with options before taxes! and by that time i might as well go for a g37 or something along the lines of that.

one more thing for the ppl on here who know different model/year of s2k's.
what year does the white come in black colored seats with the red down the middle of the entire seat and red interior?
are those BC models or are they US ones?

thanks.

Nobody buys an S2000 to NOT drive it fairly hard (well, almost nobody). But they are built to be driven like that, so as long as the regular maintenance has been done, you shouldnt have any problems.

Black AND red seats are AP2 (04+), Canada or US.

If I were you I'd go with an '03 (if you want 9k redline) for ~$18-20,000, or '06-07 for $28-30,000 from the states. No sense in paying 60k+ for a new one when you can get a basically new one (08, low miles) for ~30-32k US.

how the fuck is a s2k 60k worthy?

what was improved on the interior? is it the AP2 (04+) that got the better interior?

how much work is there to import a US one over? are there any companies that will import for me?
i dont want to deal with all the paper work etc.

i just want to check out the car, get it inspected, then buy it straight out.

rk604 01-15-2009 07:49 AM

old tread but....thers a saying "newer is always better"
and it depends....is it gonna stay stock?...if so then better buying one outta stealership and go from there...if your planning to mod...then go with 03 or 04 depending if u want ap1/ap2...and plus ull save a lot considering the economy

hotjoint 01-15-2009 07:59 AM

I always wanted an s2k :)

vo_hantu 01-15-2009 08:24 AM

GL with purchase!! The big thing about 06+ is the traction control function......I THINK - don't quote me.

cdizzle_996 01-15-2009 08:29 AM

Lots burn oil as well, so check that.

KO7 01-15-2009 09:25 AM

I know traction control is not for everyone, but for me, I would get an 06+ model with VSA for the piece of mind in less-than-ideal road conditions.

same here, until i sat in one :(

Mashimaro 01-15-2009 10:23 AM

If you can afford it, it seems like the newer AP2 models are the ones to buy. Even though the redline is lowered by 1K, the 2.2L motor puts out more power and tq. Of course, i don't own one so take what i say with a grain of salt.

let me see if i can find you a dyno chart of it that i saw on Honda-tech...i think it was something like 20hp difference.

Edit - here's the link: http://www.vtec.net/articles/view-ar...&page_number=2

Rikaro 01-15-2009 10:37 AM

The 04+ also has different suspension geometry which makes the car more stable (I guess it's on the tracks where you can tell the biggest differences).

hk20000 01-15-2009 10:57 AM

the oil burning issue is easily resolved by buying the cheapest oil on the shelf....

nns 01-15-2009 11:21 AM

The AP2 in blue (Laguna Blue Pearl, if I'm not mistaken) looks so sharp in person.
