I'll probably never own or drive either, but the Corvette is just so much more appealing... the GT-R is a 4000lb monster of a vehicle... it's overweight, oversized and has the same high door-sills problem all new cars suffer from.

The Corvette is still relatively light and a true sports car... as much as it suffers from the redneck gold-chain image, I would rather own it over the GT-R any day.

Corvette has always been known to be a high horsepower car, front engine and RWD. This has always been the tradition and the fanboys have stood behind it for years.

Now that all the high performance cars that are coming out have excess of 500hp, the AWD format is superior compared to RWD especially since they can make the AWD systems flexible where they can control up to or close to all the power to the rear wheels and only activate the front wheels when the car is slipping. This makes Corvette a victim of it's own image. I can't imagine Chevy making the Vette an AWD car...

Also, let's not forget what the GTR was designed for, going around corners really fast, which is what it does well in. It just happens that it's also fast in a straight line.

I don't think it's fair to compare the GTR to the ZR1, when the V-spec comes out next year, it should be a good battle.

PS, the tranny issue is blown out of proportion, AFAIK, the tranny's failed on two vehicles because the owners used the launch control feature on the GTR 35+ times while the car had under 1k on the odo.

the ZR-1 already murdered the GTR on the ring you idiot, as well as the Viper ACR.. and guess what? THEY ARE BOTH RWD!

for anyone that's never driven a C5 or newer vett should shut up, they're fucking awesome cars.

if i had the money for a "nice" car i'd get the ZR1

brute_4s 10-23-2008 05:15 PM

it may have already been said but im not gonna read all the posts but for people who say that the corvette just isnt as good because its not awd, ive never seen a lemans car or any professional style race car with a awd layout. if awd is better than rwd how come audi wont even use it in their lemans cars and whenever you see audi race in sports car championships their tires are alwayts the first to go. not to mention awd mean understeer sometimes and its only good off the line so in a 2 lap race the corvette has already caught up..bnut yeah why doesnt everyone just say that both cars are sweet...

I had the opportunity to drive a C6 at a GM Test Drive Event @ Science World this year, and it has forever changed my perspective on American cars.. Sure, the interior isn't pretty, but it's functional, has a good driving position... The clutch is surprisingly light and well articulated for a 400+hp car, and the manual gearbox is better than a 4cylinder Audi (I guess that's not saying much).. But yeah, bdub, STFU..

asian_XL 10-23-2008 05:31 PM

no matter what...GT-R is fastARRRRRRRR!!!!

Volvo-brickster 10-23-2008 05:56 PM

on the street, you have nothing to prove

take it to a track with slicks and lets see some times

death_blossom 10-23-2008 06:05 PM

wow, b-dub could you please tone down your biased opinions.

the argument that 4WD/AWD is better is quite debatable. on track, a traditional AWD wasn't able to do certain things that a RWD could. such as rotating the vehicle by throttle to point it towards the apex of the corner. AWD cars would traditionally have a tendancy to understeer. this was of course later remedied by better AWD systems such as ATTESA and AYC. Nissan certainly has done some great things w/ the newest GT-R, but this only forces car companies to engineer new and great things for FR platform vehicles. GM seems to have tweaked the FR formula to grip levels better than the current GT-R. saying that AWD is straight-up better is just too biased and something a non-race car driver would say.

let's just sit back and see what the GT-R V-Spec can do when it is finally released.

Does not compute.

What's wrong with KA-T builds? They can make power equal to SRs and more. :)

That's because AWD is explicitly prohibited in most major road race series, including LeMans:

http://www.lemans.org/sport/sport/re...fr_gb_2008.pdf

Section 9.4

That said, the weight handicap caused by an AWD system could make the cars uncompetitive. 0-60 time is meaningless in anything other than a drag race or a stoplight grand prix  anyways.

The ACR is an excellent example of what happens when you add terrific tires, oodles of power and torque, and ... The Force (downforce). High cornering speed for high speed corners, and tons of torque for the low speed corner exits. Just lovely.

umm, that's what I've been saying the entire time, the V-Spec is in competition with the ZR1 and we can't really compare the GTR to the ZR1. I will revisit this thread once the V-Spec is out, until then we will have to wait and see.

^ Since you're so experienced on the track with the GTR and Z06, then perhaps you're finally the fanboy to ask this question I've been asking over and over, yet you guys run like the plague when confronted with it:

In the videos of the GTR and ZR1 running the 'ring, how is the GTR able to stay side-by-side the ZR1 on the long back straight for a drag race? Surely you know a Z06 will walk away from a GTR in a straight line once the cars are moving (since you've driven them) and a ZR1 should completely embarass the GTR in a drag race. Yet the videos clearly show the GTR hangin with the ZR1.

It's so fucking obvious - the GTR that Nissan ran at the 'ring was significantly boosted in HP output.

Nissan cheated, plain and simple.

I know what you mean... I rented a C6 for a week last year in California and it was like a rude awakening... I thought to myself.. "THIS is what I've been bashing? WTF have I been driving all these years??" It made me see that a car can make the big power without being loud, it can handle very well without bone jarring suspension, etc.... My next car won't be Japanese that's for sure...

get outta this thread gtr lovers, your precise gtr isnt even a str8 6 anymore, wheres the tradition wheres the legend? the vetter zr1 is a legend ever since 1993, and its rwd and front engine still has good balance, u gotta be a real expert 2 handle this beast not just a deck jockey who gets into his gtr and lets the all wheel and computer do the driving, dont get me wrong gtr is extremely fast but i wouldnt say has hard 2 tame and if your like me u take pride in your driving skills and are up 4 the challenge i get bored with cars that dont let u control as much as the driving experience, ps: zr1 rocks gaurnteed collector mark my words!

Gtr is also nice if you got a couple of kids you gotta tear around with you like I do.
If i was single, I may consider the vette, but chevy build quality is still not there imo.

Tradition, legend, i guess throwing on a blower on the vette does not break traditon, hahaha right. It will be as much a collectors item as the new ctsv caddy.

I drove my mom's carpet store's hino truck the other day, This guy has a point! ;) The brakes are horribly difficult to control and steering it is not easy

Nissan Build quality what?
Nissan has never built a "quality car". They make some fast cars, and some fun cars.. but build quality? you're kidding me.

This particular ZR1 is the LAST fastest Corvette GM will ever make for a LONG time. This is THE car to get. Not the 911, not the GTR. This car is practically an investment with the value it'll have in the next few decades.

Pics of your car.

ilvtofu 08-27-2009 06:27 PM

A car should never be looked at as an investment
But you're right about nissan build quality, never heard of anything that great about it

The car to get is the Viper ACR anyways :D
Looks 10x better than the Bland ZR1, sounds better IMO, might even be faster
