what is it... and where do you draw the line between clingy and getting to know/hanging - specially with a person you just met...

I wouldn't say the 2 are even related. Getting to know is being casual with no attachments or anything, clingy is the exact opposite.

Clingy (for me) is when the person won't stop messaging you on msn, even if it says you're busy. They constantly call or text, wanting to know what you're doing or who you're with.

This is how Urban Dictionary defines clingy:

A boyfriend/girlfriend or possibly someone who likes you who becomes let's say, obsessed. Signs that your boyfriend/girlfriend is clingy: doesn't stop calling, constantly tells you how much they love/like you, writes you songs, buys you flowers/chocolate so much it gets annoying, and wants to spend time..all the time.

calling 10+ times a day (sometimes within 4 hours)
always wants to know where you are or what youre doing
gets jealous when you are out with friends of the opposite sex

mind you, this is when you're not even together and not even bf/gf

^I'd say thats stalkerish, way beyond clingy if you're not even dating

that's more like possessive than clingy

Clingy for me:
- wants to hang out every single day/every moment of spare time
- wants to be on the phone for hours every time he/she call
- gets annoyed whenever you want to hang out with friends without him/her

Its hard sometimes, you wanna see them but still have to contain yourself at the same time. So if you dont see them you'll replace it by communicating with them, through phone, msn, w/e.

ulic: if both folks were like that it wouldn't matter. neither would realize they're clingy and both would enjoy the constant attention.
