| Accounting jobs
For anybody that is an accountant, how is it as a job? Is it boring and tedious or pretty relaxed and easy?

obviously it depends on what kind of job you have, but if you have the right one and you are good/like at analyzing numerical problems then it can be rewarding

Like what was said before, it depends on if you like analyzing and compiling numbers. It also depends on which direction you take in accounting. You can do auditing, taxation or consulting. In most firms, you can do the first two. It's really only the bigger firms where you can do consulting.
Like any other job, there are relaxed times but if you're an accountant, prepare to really work in the busy times. i.e. tax season and June. It's usual to work late hours or even bring home work. Stress is usual as well as there are deadlines.
I love numbers so it's never tedious or boring to me. Really think about what kind of person you are. There are work travel opportunities depending on how big the firm is and depending on which career direction you choose but you'll be working in a cubicle.

How did you guys get accounting jobs. I've been searching, most of them require quite a bit of experience, hence no point of me applying, since I have none and I am in school.

I work in accounts payable, got the job in September
I applied to alot of jobs only to get a couple of interviews, apparently the hardest part for many accountants is getting that first job
For most jobs listings, as long as you fulfill more then half of the requirements they will consider you

I have to go ahead and agree with everybody in this thread.. its hella boring, tedious and stressful(but only during month-start, mid-month and month-end, then there's year-end..) otherwise the other times are pretty chillax and routine. (pls note this is my own experience and I don't speak for anybody else in their accounting jobs).
I worked accounts receivables for a year.. did the same thing everyday
I also agree that its hard finding that first accounting job, literally took me years to finally get hired for an entry-level accounting job(one of the unlucky ones) but once you have that experience, it opens more doors for you.
good luck!

good luck! | Damn, took that long to find the first job. I need to find some job that's business related, preferably accounting. Need to obtain 300hours of work experience for my retarded program at school, so I can finish my degree.
Job postings I've seen, they ask for 1-2yrs of experience for an entry level accounting position, but I figured that there's no point to apply since I don't meet their criteria in that area of experience. Doubt they will take the time to train me and pay me haha. Need some hookups, this is stressful .

I would recommend that you apply for administrative positions b/c they can usually lead you into positions in the accounting/finance dept. usually if you network(at your company) then you can get chummy and that'll lead you to do some accting work.
I suggest you keep applying, never give up hope! we've all been there.

Back in the day, one of my BCIT instructors got me hooked up. Create networks for yourself. Unfortunately to the guys just beginning their careers, the job market is slim pickings and you'll have a real tough time.
