| WTB asap - winter beater - I have $1000 cash in hand!
Well, my pride and joy just got into a fender bender and will be out of commission til mid Jan - so I need something to get me thru this snow til then....and obviously, I'm not paying $150 per week for a loaner!
I have cash literally in hand and it MUST meet this criteria -
-front wheel drive with at LEAST all seasons, but prefer snow tires
-rear wheel drive ONLY with snows
-MUST be aircared
-must NOT need any major work (brakes, tune up, etc......)
-I prefer a 4 cylinder but a 6 will be considered - no V8s
-I'd prefer something with a reputation for durability ie - corolla, civic, accord BUT I will not rule out Cavaliers, Sunbirds, Golfs, etc.....
-you MUST be easily accessible asap to view as I have no car to come see it and have to rely on the bus to get to you, so be right in Vancouver or Richmond.
Guess that's it. Get back to me with what ya got and maybe I can get it off your hands tomorrow!
My number is (604)809-7604
Cheers

Checkout budget or enterprise cause I believe it's 300 for an economy class car for a month...that's pretty cheap considering insurance is included.
I would personally not buy a car under a 1000. It's just like throwing money away. In the end it's up to you though

Thanx but my theory is pretty much the opposite. Why throw away 'at least' $300 for a months' rental when I can transfer my existing insurance (from the car in the shop - while it's being repaired) to a car I have bought at or near $1000 that I know I will get back, either in full, or very, very close when it's time to sell it in Spring. The trick is knowing what to look for and making sure what you buy doesn't need lots of nickel and dime type maintenance while you own it.
Case in point - I just bought an '89 Corolla with 200000km's - new snow tires, new brakes, exhaust and tune up (and new cd stereo) Everything works as it should, runs beautifully and flew thru air care...for $900 cash. And I guarantee if I don't get that back come March, it will be nowhere near a $300+ hit to my wallet.
You just gotta know what you're doing ;^)

Totally agree.
Why flush your money away when you can drive a beater for free? And by free I'm talking after fuel, insurance and a small monthly maintenance allowance. Hell, you can probably ask $1200 and get $1K after you're done w/ it.
Good on ya.

dont forget taxes (7% pst = $70)
transfering insurance 2x = $60
not to mention time and gas spent looking for a car/meeting up now and after the sale.
thats already 130.
totally not worth it for 2 weeks......

That depends at how well one shops and barters. If you stand to make money when it's time to sell the car, then the profit will more than make up for the expenses incurred buying it. And in my case, it's more like a month to get fixed as it won't even be in the shop til Jan. 13th - then the actual time to repair it. Bottom line, the tax and insurance (not even including the approx. $100-150 I'll save in gas expenses - Porsche<Corolla) nearly negates the cost!
The biggest determining factor is knowing what a good value/steal is when it comes time to grab an 'a to b car' - there are killer deals right now, what with the season and economy.
happy hunting.....if anyone is!?? :^)
