I mean, twinning the port mann: they shoulda have started that years ago. Anyone living in surrey, langley, abbortsford knows how bad that bridge is.
Not to mention that patullo bridge needs to be twinned as well. I know they are doing studies on this and have came up with proposals. But it's clear there needs to be another bridge into new west as well.
When olympics come, people are gonna see what crappy infrastructure planning we have, and how bad translink is! |
I may be wrong, but I think it just takes a lot longer to build a bridge now in comparison to the 70's or 80's. We have way more bylaws now that the new design must comply to. The standard of building is higher now as new structures require higher earthquake resistance ratings.
Also, we are more heavily populated now in comparison to the 80's so coordinating the diversion of traffic is not as easy as it would've been done before.
Along with diversion of traffic, what may also prolong it is the coordination with the community. As much as we wanted a Skytrain to Richmond, residential and commercial occupants along Camby were disgruntled about the Cambie construction. Coordinating a solution between Translink & the affected Community may be a slow process.

Who knows. Maybe the money was prioritized to the Olympics. Maybe housing for homeless people was prioritized over this because there was a louder public outcry for the homeless people in comparison to twinning the bridges. Maybe.
