another craigslist rant

What the fuck is up with people asking "whats the lowest you will go on so and so?"

I wish there was a way to filter out al the idiots emailing me this past week. The best when someone asked me to part out a part of my lens.

Whenever I would get someone asking me how low I would go I'd add 30% to the price I was asking.

Most of them wouldn't email back but one guy didn't get it. He kept asking why I was asking for more, and I told him its a special price for a special guy like him.

It's not just on CL. I posted my car for sale here on RS and someone asked me how much for the airfilter. Of all things, he wanted a regular K&N cone air filter.

In the few postings I've put up in CL, I state,"Lowballers will be (laughed at and) ignored"... Right after my listed contacts.

BUT these were hot ticket items... Tiesto tickets and I was selling them at reasonable prices to flip them quickly.

Problem is that some people don't want to part out. If they did, they would have done that in the first place. And some people ask for the stupidest parts.
If you want a certain part, you can buy the item that is for sale, take the part you need, and then try to sell the rest.

you are dealing with USED stuff. expect to haggle. don't see any problem with people asking upfront for a deal.

what my sister gets all the time though, is people aggreeing to the price, and then showing up at the door, and saying 'well i only have $xx on me'. that's kinda annoying.

TS is a tool. You have to expect a buyer to look for the best deal. You're never gonna sell your car if you don't expect to negotiate.

true. i will always haggle. and expect the same from others. i'll usually factor that into my price.
but i would never, ever, ever show up after agreeing on a price and try and haggle. unless there was some kind of undisclosed damage or something, that's just wrong.
if i were selling something on CL and someone stepped to me like that, i'd be like daaang yo. kick rocks. this aint RS

I fuckin love on the spot lowballers. I was selling an item on cl and this kid and his mom met with me at a mall. So his mom said "make sure you give him the best deal" I said excuse me? My price was 50.00 firm for two items. She said she would give me 20.00 because she came from Vancouver... I told her she can go back to Vancouver and try to find a better deal. Then she offered me 25.00, then 27.50............ I told her I want 50.00 now or I'm going home. I will rarely move on a price because its no thing for me to go right back home. I don't meet people unless they come 5 minutes from my place because of all the no shows in the past.

I believe when people ask wats the lowest u will go on an item is to avoid the haggling. Well thats wat my goal is, i hate to haggle, so when someone's selling something for $100 and tells me $90 is the lowest he'll go, either i buy it at $90 or i dont simply as that.

Of course some other people use that as a measuring stick on how low the seller will actually sell it for.

exactly. plus if the ad doesn't state it's firm, maybe the price isn't firm and has a built in buffer to haggling.

asking this question basically brings it down to a take it or leave it price by the seller and eliminates the haggling imo

250 cash in hand, I’m in Vancouver though, do you come here often?
Was selling it for 350, and then he emails me back asking for both the 85mm f/1.8 and the 50mm f/1.4 asking for both for 400.

I just list my stuff with a firm price and ignore all those that offer anything less.

It's been working great for me so far.

Ya me to. I always price my stuff on the low end and put a firm price. With a few exceptions I have items sold money in hand in less then 24 hours most of the time.

Its not just CL, its everywhere..

Ppl all want their shit as cheap as they can get it
Personally if the price is decent, I dont even bother haggling them on it just out of respect for the other person, cause I sure as hell hate it when someone asks me to lower my price when its already way too low

I was selling a heap load of Blu Ray as a bundle and listed $90 firm.

Then I got demanding emails like,

"My offer is $35 for them. Take it or leave it"

Decided not to reply and then she sent another one again.

"Offer still stands at $35"

Stupid biatch!!
